Motherwell host Livingston on Saturday, as they look to make it four Ladbrokes Premiership wins from four.

The ‘Well boss praised the attitude and desire of his young players breaking through, after David Turnbull put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half year contract extension.

“I believe in this squad and that there’s even more young players to come through,” he said.

Motherwell face Livingston in the Ladbrokes Premiership on Saturday, in what is set to be an interesting encounter at Fir Park.

Gary Holt’s side are in their worst run of the season so far, whilst Stephen Robinson’s side are in their best.

Here is what you need to know about ahead of Saturday’s game.

Big three points

Just three points separate the two teams in the league, which heaps importance on to this match for both sides.

Three points for the Steelmen could play a part in their top six aspirations and move them further away from the foot of the table.

Livingston meanwhile, could move back above Hibs in the table with a win.

Cadden’s won’t collide

The last time the two sides met at Fir Park, the prospect of Chris Cadden going up against his twin brother Nicky was naturally a focal point in the build-up.

However, this time around, neither of the two will be included in their matchday squads.

Chris still finds himself sidelined with a knee injury, whilst Nicky completed a deadline day loan move to Championship side Ayr United.

New faces on show

Although the Cadden’s won’t feature, there will be some new faces on show in Lanarkshire tomorrow.

The Lions added a number of new faces, including Chris Erskine, Ciaron Brown, Hakeem Odofin and Gregg Wylde.

Livingston are the visitors to Fir Park on Saturday, as Motherwell go for four consecutive Ladbrokes Premiership victories.

Head to head

The two sides have already met three times this season, with an even spread of results.

Motherwell won the first, a Betfred Cup clash in West Lothian, by one goal to nil. A 1-1 league draw followed at Fir Park, before Livi picked up three points on home turf towards the end of 2018.

Team news

Chris Cadden, Trevor Carson and Craig Tanner remain out long term. Christian Mbulu is out with a hamstring strain.

Gaël Bigirimana has left Motherwell to join Hibernian on a permanent basis.

The Burundi international made 57 appearances for the Steelmen and scored three goals during his spell at Fir Park.

Bigirimana, 25, moved to the club from Coventry City in the summer of 2017 and was part of the squad which memorably reached two cup finals in the 2017/18 campaign.

“I’ve loved my time at Motherwell,” he said on his departure. “It’s been a memorable 18 months for me and my family.

“I would like to thank everyone at the club, from the coaching staff to the fans, and wish them all the best in the future.”

Manager Stephen Robinson added: “We would like to thank Gaël for all he has done at the club.

“He has seen his opportunities restricted in his time here, especially because of the emergence of Alan Campbell and David Turnbull.

“Everyone at the club would like to wish him well for the future.”

Motherwell host Livingston in the Ladbrokes Premiership, searching for their fourth consecutive league win.

The fixture is the first of a busy spell for the Steelmen, with five games falling in February.

Here, we look at Saturday’s meeting in numbers.

Three

The total number of points separating the two sides ahead of Saturday’s game.

Livingston currently sit eighth with 30 points, whilst the Fir Parkers sit three points behind in ninth.

A win for ‘Well would not likely be enough to move them above the Lions in the table though, due to the gulf in goal difference.

Eight

No side in the bottom half of the table has a better defence at home than Livingston, who have conceded just eight goals on their home turf this season.

However, the Steelmen have the second-best record out of those six sides, having shipped just ten all term.

In contrast, Livi have struggled in front of goal away from home, scoring just seven times away from the Toni Macaroni Arena.

The Lions return to the top flight means the two sides met at Fir Park for the first time this season in 13 years.

They’ve only gone head-to-head on nine occasions in Lanarkshire, with the Steelmen losing two and winning four.

Saturday’s clash will be the tenth encounter with the Almondvale outfit at Fir Park.

The Steelmen have picked up two positive Ladbrokes Premiership results in the first month of 2019, defeating Hibernian and Dundee.

David Turnbull has been the man whose goals won both those games, with the 19-year-old then being rewarded with a new two-and-a-half year deal.

Liam Grimshaw has been an all-action part of the defence which has kept two league clean sheets, with his box-to-box energy rightly earning him plaudits.

Another academy product, Jake Hastie, has burst onto the scene in January after returning from a positive loan spell at Alloa Athletic. A first goal for the club in the William Hill Scottish Cup tie with Ross County was then followed up with starts in the two league fixtures, where he showed his talent.

Mark Gillespie is also another strong contender. Keeping two shutouts in the league, the goalkeeper has continued his form as a safe pair of hands between the sticks.

Aaron Taylor-Sinclair has left the club to join English League Two side Crewe Alexandra on loan until the end of the season.

The 27-year-old left back joined from Plymouth Argyle in the summer, but a series of injuries have restricted him to just five league starts in claret and amber.

He joins Crewe as they hunt for a play-off spot, the Railwaymen sit just nine points behind sixth-placed MK Dons.

“Aaron arrived having previously excelled in the Scottish Premiership with Partick Thistle and, having won a move south to the English Championship at the time, we were excited to add him to our squad last summer,” Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson said.

“Whilst his ability is unquestionable, a number of frustrating injuries have prevented him from really getting going at Fir Park.

“We felt it best and fair on everyone to give him a fresh start elsewhere.”

Motherwell’s game with Rangers has been moved to Sunday, April 7.

The match was originally due to be played at Fir Park on Saturday, April 6.

The new kick-off time is at 12.30pm and the game will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

The fixture is the Steelmen’s last in 2018/19 before the Ladbrokes Premiership splits in two.

Motherwell head to Paisley on Wednesday, 6 February in pursuit of another three Ladbrokes Premiership points.

The Steelmen were victorious against St Mirren in their last trip west, pushed on by a strong travelling support.
