Winger Olly Crankshaw has joined Motherwell on loan from Stockport County for the remainder of the season. 

The 24-year-old, who has featured 19 times for The Hatters this season, joins Steven Hammell’s squad for the rest of the season and has featured for Stockport County, Dundee, Wigan and Preston in his career thus far.

“Olly is exactly the profile of player that we need at the minute” manager Steven Hammell said.

“He will add to our attacking options and create competition for places which is something we need in the squad.

“From initial talks with Stockport, it was clear that Olly was keen to come up here and impress, which is something that I look for in a player and think is important when recruiting.

“He will excite fans with his style of play and I’m looking forward to seeing the impact he makes in his time at Fir Park.”

Crankshaw is available for selection for Saturday’s match against Ross County.

“I am buzzing to get the deal done and I’m looking forward to getting down to work,” Crankshaw added.

“Stockport have changed formation midway through the season, which has limited the minutes I have been getting on the park so this is a chance to play regularly.

“I see this loan move as a real opportunity and can’t wait to get involved.”

The winger will wear the number 12 shirt.

Phillipa MacConnell has joined Glasgow Women on loan for the rest of the season. 

MacConnell has made her first team debut this season as she continues her development.

“I feel this is an ideal move for Phillipa,” head coach Paul Brownlie said.

“She has impressed myself and the coaching staff this season so this is an opportunity for her to gain regular first team football experience whilst playing in the top flight.”

The club wishes Phillipa all the best for the rest of the season.

Motherwell FC can announce chief executive Alan Burrows is stepping down.

Alan was promoted to the role in 2014, and was the longest-serving CEO in the Scottish Premiership.

During his tenure leading the organisation, Motherwell finished third in the Premiership, played in Europa League and Europa Conference League qualifiers, reached two domestic cup finals and won the SFA Youth Cup for the first time.

Off the field, as the club transitioned to fan ownership, Alan presided over numerous club records including record turnover, two net profit records, a record transfer fee received, a record front of shirt sponsorship deal and the highest ever season ticket sales. He was also named the Scottish CEO of the Year at the Football Business Awards in 2019.

“It is with a very heavy heart that I resign from a club that I love dearly,” Alan said.

“I have hugely enjoyed working with my fellow Directors, the amazing, hard-working staff and the countless players, managers and coaches in that time. I want to thank and pay tribute to each and every one of them; I have so many terrific memories.

“I would also like to thank the supporters who accepted me as one of them, and gave me room and time to get comfortable in my role, particularly at the start.

“I have discussed my future with the Chairman for some time and although there isn’t always an ideal time, I felt a new year gives everyone the chance for fresh start. I would like to give someone else the chance to drive our club forward. Someone who can perhaps bring new, exciting ideas and a different approach.

“Although I’ll shortly leave Fir Park for the last time, my heart will always be with this fantastic club. Thanks again for everything.”

Chairman Jim McMahon added “We are really sorry to be losing Alan as our Chief Executive.

“I have had the privilege of knowing him for a very long time, latterly in the Chair/CEO relationship.

“Through this period I have watched him develop into one of the best and most dedicated CEOs I have worked with in my career.

“His drive, imagination and love for this club have been key in all that we have achieved over the past years.

“We could not have asked for a better representative or leader – he stands for everything the club and fans exemplify – for all our principles.

“Although we are losing him, we also wish him every success in the future.”

The Board is reviewing our recruitment options as we consider the sort of person we need to take the club through a new chapter. Alan will continue in post until that replacement is ready to be appointed.

– Concessions Tickets would be ages 65 and over and FT Students with a valid matric card.

The Story of the Match

Motherwell’s home form continues to frustrate and concern as they look for their first home league win since August.

Two of County’s four wins this season have came on the road, beating Livingston and Hibernian but they sit at the bottom of the league, having lost five of their last six and failed to score in their last four.

The Steelmen came out on top in the previous meeting between the two sides – goals from Joe Efford, Callum Slattery and a Van Veen hat-trick secured the points in Dingwall in October.

Story of the match

Motherwell are unbeaten in their last four matches in all competitions.

They progressed to the fifth round of the Scottish Cup with a 3-0 win over Gartcairn in their last outing.

The last time these two teams met was in August, when the women of steel recorded a famous win over the Hibees for the first time in the top flight. Kaela McDonald-Nguah, Lori Gardner and Amy Anderson got on the scoresheet to help the ‘Well record a 3-2 win in the capital.

Hibernian are currently three points better off in the standings.

There has been numerous changes to the schedule for our reserve matches for the remainder of the campaign. 

Our first reserve league match of 2023 is against Queen of the South at Palmerston on Tuesday 17 January.

Kick off is 2pm.

We will then take on Hamilton Accies away from home on Tuesday 24 January.

Dates have still to be arranged for our away match to Livingston and our home fixture against Dundee United.

Motherwell have been drawn at home against Montrose in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup. 

The tie is due to take place on Sunday 12 February.

The women of steel advanced to the next round with a 3-0 win over Gartcairn. Kaela McDonald-Nguah, Katie Rice and Carla Boyce all got on the scoresheet.

With Motherwell picking up a point in their first game of 2023, the steelmen were looking to kick on in their first home match of the new year live on Sky Sports. 

Hibernian were in town, after their humiliating defeat to rivals Hearts seven days prior.

The away side made the breakthrough after 16 minutes through Kevin Nisbet.

Despite going a goal down, Motherwell tried to create openings. Callum Slattery has shot saved before Ricki Lamie hit the top of the crossbar with a header.

After the break, Hibernian doubled their lead with Nisbet grabbing his brace. Half time substitute Stuart McKinstry latched onto a long ball forward to half the deficit.

Solholm rattled the bar with a header which would have drawn his side level before Nisbet made it a hat trick with his third.

Ross Tierney grabbed a goal in stoppage time but the clock ran out for the hosts as their poor home form continued.

Motherwell progressed safely into the next round of the Scottish Cup with a comfortable 3-0 win over SWPL2 side Gartcairn on Sunday at K-Park. 

Kaela McDonald-Nguah, Katie Rice and Carla Boyce all got on the scoresheet as Motherwell made their dominance count.

In a tie that Motherwell would be expected to win, they were frustrated in the early stages of the game, with Gartcairn holding firm.

Lucy Ronald thought she had opened the scoring when she finished from Boyce’s through ball but the linesman’s flag was raised to rule her goal out.

The breakthrough would in fact come on 30 minutes.

Chelsie Watson the provider and McDonald-Nguah was on hand to break the deadlock.

Boyce was involved in the action again when captain Gill Inglis slipped the number nine through but her inital shot was blocked by the keeper with her rebound also failing to beat the Gartcairn stopper.

Gartcairn would continue to hold Motherwell until the latter stages of the game.

With five minutes remaining in the tie, prolific set piece take Rice stepped up to knock her deadball into the top corner to open up a two goal advantage for the women of steel.

Striker Boyce got in on the action before the final whistle when she made it 3-0 when her strike took a deflection before nestling into the bottom corner.
