Motherwell FC can today confirm Kieran Kennedy has left the club by mutual consent.

The 23-year old has had a difficult time with injuries this term, his last appearance in Claret and Amber coming against Celtic back in May of 2016.

Kennedy asked to leave the club in order to try and continue his career in the semi-professional ranks south of the border and the club has allowed him to move on.

Kieran, who joined from Leicester City in the summer of 2015 after coming through the youth ranks at Man City, played twenty-five times for ‘Well.

Everyone at the club would like to thank Kieran for his efforts whilst at Fir Park and wish him luck and success in his future career.

The next home fixture of the campaign is the Lanarkshire Derby, so don’t miss the chance to experience matchday hospitality for the big game.

The Motherwell squad were introduced to innovative new boots and equipment from top American manufacturers New Balance this afternoon.

Amongst the popular Visaro 2.0 boots and Furon Dispatch gloves, the New Balance team introduced the Fir Park side to all-new boots that are due for release next year.

And for New Balance Sports Marketing Executive Ben Robson, afternoon’s like today play a big role for the company.

Forging a career that saw him win honours aplenty, both European and domestic, and an international career with 30 caps for his country, between the mid-eighties and mid-nineties Brian McClair was one of the finest footballers in the British isles. 

Brian had been on Motherwell’s radar for some time but ‘Well lost out to Aston Villa in the race for his signature. After a brief spell in England that left him disillusioned, the Steelmen wouldn’t miss out a second time and McClair finally joined Ally MacLeod’s side in 1981.

MacLeod would soon depart however with David Hay assuming the manager’s position and leading ‘Well to the First Division title.  Getting his first regular run in the side as Motherwell closed in on the title Brian netted four times in the final six games to serve notice of his potential.

The Airdrie born player netted a hat-trick against Clyde in August 1982 but it would be a treble in a 3-0 win over Rangers on 3^rd January 1983 that really grabbed the attention.  Even more so when he followed it up with a double in a 2-1 success over Celtic a fortnight later.

In the summer of 1983 McClair moved to Celtic for a mere £75,000 where he would finish top scorer for the Parkhead side in each of his four seasons with them.  In 1985 McClair helped Celtic to the Scottish Cup and the following season won the league title in dramatic circumstances as Celtic pipped Hearts on the final day.

In July 1987 McClair moved south to Manchester Utd where he would spend the next elven years.  There he would score 127 times in 471 appearances securing an incredible haul of 4 league titles, 3 FA Cups, a League Cup, Cup Winners Cup and UEFA Super Cup. His loyalty to United was rewarded with a testimonial in April 1997.

In 1998 Motherwell made an ambitious move to bring the then 35 year old McClair back to Fir Park but never quite at full fitness Brian was ill at ease back in the Scottish top flight and after less than six months returned to England to commence his coaching career.

After a spell as assistant manager at Blackburn Rovers, McClair returned to Old Trafford where he would spend the best part of the next 15 years helping develop United’s youngsters before a brief spell as the SFA’s National Performance director.

Motherwell FC has today confirmed Marlon Beresford as the club’s new Goalkeeping Coach.

The 47-year old enjoyed a twenty-year playing career in England, turning out for clubs like Sheffield Wednesday, Burnley, Middlesbrough, Wolves, Bradford and Luton, where he was teammates with Steelmen boss Stephen Robinson.

After his playing career came to an end, he worked with the Irish FA and also coached the goalkeepers at Barnet.

He will now team up with coaching staff at Fir Park to work directly with Craig Samson, Russell Griffiths, Peter Morrison, Ollie Pain and Jordan Pettigrew.

Speaking to motherwellfc.co.uk, Marlon said: “It all happened very quickly, but I’m delighted to be here and I look forward to linking up with Stephen Robinson again.

“I’ve known him for a long time – I played with him at Luton and he took me to Northern Ireland to work with the under 21s, 19s and 17s over there so I jumped at the opportunity to come here.”

He added: “Not only do I know the gaffer well, but I know Stephen Craigan too so it’s been really easy settling in, everyone has been very friendly and welcoming.”

‘Well boss Stephen Robinson added: “Marlon has vast experience in the game as both a player and a coach.

“He will be a great addition to the staff at Motherwell FC and I am sure the staff and players will enjoy working with him.”

Extended highlights from Ochilview where a Jordan Armstrong header and a Shea Gordon double give the young Steelmen a 3-0 win against Hearts.

Under-20s boss Stephen Craigan was happy to see his side return to winning ways with a 3-0 win over Hearts tonight.

The Northern Irishman described the comfortable win as an example of the up and down nature of football.

Speaking to MFC TV at full-time, Craigan insisted his side can still do better.

He said: “That’s the up and down nature of under-20s football.

“Hearts were young tonight as well and I must say that, I’m not going to stand here and say we were amazing against a really good side or a really experienced side – they were quite young.”

Motherwell under-20s returned to winning ways with a convincing 3-0 win over Hearts tonight.

An early Jordan Armstrong header was followed up by a second half brace from Shea Gordon as the Steelmen dominated and deserved their win in the Development League fixture against the Edinburgh outfit.

Manager Stephen Craigan called on senior players Jacob Blyth, Lionel Ainsworth and Russell Griffiths for the clash at Ochilview Park – whilst giving the ever-present Barry Maguire and Tom Fry a rest.

And it was nearly Blyth who made the difference in the 12^th minute – leaping high to get his head on Jake Hastie’s looping cross, only to be denied by a superb save from Hearts stopper Paul Gallacher.

The keeper could only push it over the bar though and from the corner that followed, Hearts were punished.

Ainsworth delivered a pinpoint cross to the free head of Jordan Armstrong who made no mistake from six yards to give the Steelmen an early lead.

Despite dropping to the bench, Maguire didn’t get the rest he might have been expecting. The young centre-back was thrown in to the action in the 20^th minute when Craigan was forced to bring off Luke Watt due to a tight hamstring.

It took the hosts 35 minutes to register their first attempt on goal, and in truth the Steelmen were never in trouble.

Callumn Morrison, 25 yards out, struck a powerful effort on goal but it soared comfortably over Griffiths’ crossbar.

It summed up the first half for the home side, who barely troubled Motherwell and were lucky to be only one down going in to the break.

The visiting ‘Well youngsters looked set to double their lead just five minutes in to the second half after Gallacher spilled Turnbull’s powerful low effort to the feet of the advancing Shea Gordon, but the linesman’s flag denied the midfielder from tapping home.

Zidan Akers cut inside from the left flank just before the hour mark, but the Hearts man dragged his effort wide of the near post and Griffiths remained untested.

Shortly after the hour mark, Motherwell doubled their advantage and it was a terrific goal too. A long ball was flicked on brilliantly by Blyth in to the run of Hastie and the winger, unselfishly, cut back for Gordon who stepped on to the pass to slide home and double the Fir Parkers lead.

Just over five minutes later, Motherwell had three and it was a terrific goal too.

Adam Livingstone’s deep cross was tucked away superbly by Gordon for his second goal of the night. The midfielder struck a side-footed volley back across goal and beyond the helpless Gallacher.

Substitute James Scott, who replaced Blyth, skipped past his marker down the right flank but but overcooked his cross under little pressure as the game wound down.

Craigan’s men held on to their clean sheet on a night when they were dominant and well worth all three points at a rain soaked Ochilview Park.

Motherwell FC has completely revamped its Commercial & Hospitality Department with three recent recruits.

Heading the new department is Suzanne Reid, who joined the club back in mid January after twelve years at Celtic FC. Suzie, a life-long ‘Well fan, was Sponsorships Manager for the Hoops for a decade, but joins on at ‘Well to lead the club’s entire commercial operation.

Also joining is Peter Gemmell, who has taken the role of Business Development Manager. Peter has spent several years at the Scottish FA and was a focal part of the successful Business Club ran by the Association. Peter has also worked in sales for Camelot.

Finally, Bernadette Brannan is the clubs’ new Hospitality & Events Manager. Bernadette, who has also worked for Celtic FC as well as roles in both the public and private sector, will oversee all aspects of the club’s matchday hospitality offering, as well as all MFC club events, both internal and external, as well as day delegates and conferences.

“In addition, journalist Lewis Irons also joined our media team from the Galloway Gazette and Stuart Harker joined Paul Matthew in the Pitchcare Team from the gWest course in Perthshire. We’ve also made significant improvements to the Ground Maintenance and Accounts & Finance teams too, but will always look to improve in all areas.”
