Motherwell ran out eventual and comfortable 4-0 winners in their third and final friendly match of pre-season against Stirling University.

A double from Leanne Crichton, and further goals from Gill Inglis and Nicole Cairney, wrapped up the win for the claret and amber.

It was an evenly contested first half with neither team really grabbing a hold of the game.

Head coach Paul Brownlie then made seven changes at half-time to rotate his team and in the second half, Motherwell showed their dominance.

Crichton broke the deadlock for the ’Well with a fine effort from a free-kick from 25 yards out.

Motherwell made it 2-0 soon after. Some excellent build-up play down the right-hand side led to Inglis being found in space and she finished past the Stirling keeper to double the advantage.

The win would be all but wrapped up when Crichton scored her second free-kick of the match.

Cairney then got her name on the scoresheet near the end of the match when she finished from close range after Stirling failed to clear a set-piece.

Motherwell’s competitive season gets underway next Sunday when they face Rangers in the SWPL Cup.

Motherwell FC Community Trust’s women’s development team are looking for players who are 18 or older.

This team competes in the SWFL Central/South East league. This will provide a good opportunity to grow your football skillset.

Motherwell made a real statement of intent as they beat Kilmarnock 6-0 in a friendly on Wednesday night.

A double from Kodie Hay, and strikes from Leanne Crichton, Amy Anderson, Claire Adams and Chelsie Watson gave Motherwell their first pre-season victory.

It was a tight affair for the first 10 minutes in the match with Kilmarnock striking the post.

However the breakthrough would come from the claret and amber on 17 minutes.

Lori Gardner showed some excellent work on the left wing before setting up Hay to slot home for her first goal of the evening.

Hay would get her brace just six minutes later. Picking up the ball up from 25 yards out, she blasted a strike past the Kilmarnock keeper for hers and Motherwell’s second goal of the evening.

Assistant manager Crichton would open her account for Motherwell from the penalty spot on 39 minutes.

Captain Gill Inglis ran the length of the park beating a number of defenders before being brought down in the box. Crichton stepped up and slotted home in the bottom right corner.

Motherwell made it four right from the restart, with Gardner again turning provider. She laid off for Anderson, who jinked by one player to smash home for her first goal in the claret and amber.

The dominance continued in the second half.

On 50 minutes, Adams picked up the ball, flicked it up into the air for Crichton to flick back to her, as she hit it sweetly on the volley for number five.

Then, on the hour mark, Watson stood over a free-kick after Adams was caught heavy in the tackle. She went up and over the wall to make it 6-0 and round off a comfortable evening.

Motherwell have signed centre-back Claire Crosbie.

The veteran defender has turned out for Celtic and had multiple spells with Spartans in her career which spans more than 12 years.

“Claire is a vastly experienced centre half who we worked hard behind the scenes to bring to Motherwell,” head coach Paul Brownlie said.

“She has played at the top level and can use that experience to help push us on this season.

“She will bring so much to this team and is another big signing for the club.”

Crosbie made her debut back in 2009 and will be looking to use all her knowledge in the game to push on her teammates this season.

“I’m really excited and looking forward to a new challenge under Paul and Leanne,” the player added.

“It’s a real honour to be part of something special and I can’t wait to use my experience to help us achieve a successful season this year.”

Motherwell have secured the signature of Kodie Hay for another season.

The midfielder played a huge part in our season last time out and will add to the team’s attacking threat.

“I am delighted Kodie has committed herself to the club for another season,” head coach Paul Brownlie said.

“Kodie provides a real attacking threat with real energy and quality on the ball that can cause teams problems.

“I’m looking forward to working with her this season.”

Motherwell have signed experienced centre back Jo Addie.

Most recently playing for Glasgow Girls, Addie will put on the claret and amber and fight for her position in Paul Brownlie’s starting side.

“Jo is yet another great addition to the squad,” head coach Paul Brownlie said. “She will bring real experience and quality to the squad.

“Her attitude in training thus far has been different class and it’s clear she’s integrating well within the squad.

“She’s a real winner and that’s why she’s here.”

Addie has turned out for Glasgow Girls and Partick Thistle most recently and will be looking to make her mark in the top flight once again.

“It’s an honour to be given the opportunity to pull on the Motherwell jersey,” she added.

“I’m looking forward to working under Paul and Leanne.

“I’m excited for the challenge that lies ahead and I can’t wait to get started.”

Motherwell got important minutes ahead of the upcoming season against SWPL1 champions Glasgow City.

A double from Lauren Davidson and Priscila Chincilla and further finishes from Clare Shine and Taylor Fisher gave City the victory in the match.

It was Motherwell who started the better in the first half, with Holly Napier picking up the ball before firing a strike on target.

However, just after 10 minutes on the clock, Glasgow City broke the deadlock. Shine drove through on goal before finishing past Ramsey in the Motherwell net.

Glasgow City doubled their advantage two minutes later when Davidson picked up the ball after a slack pass in the Motherwell midfield before neatly placing the ball in the corner.

The champions made it 3-0 on the stroke of half time, Davidson unmarked at the back post blasted the ball into the net to get her brace.

City added to their advantage at the start of the second half. A long ball forward found Chinchilla, Ramsey came rushing out and made the tackle but the ball took an awkward bounce into her net.

Chinchilla grabbed a brace straight after as she rounded the goalkeeper.

Glasgow City made it six when Fisher finished from close range, and she also added her second sooner after.

Motherwell continue their pre-season when they face Kilmarnock on Wednesday night.

Motherwell will kick off their pre-season campaign with an away fixture against current SWPL1 champions Glasgow City on 25 July. 

The women of steel will continue their season preparations when they play SWPL2 sides Kilmarnock and St Johnstone on the 28 July and 4 August respectively.

The ’Well will round off their pre-season with a friendly against Stirling University on 8 August.

Kick-off times will be confirmed shortly.

Motherwell have signed forward Holly Napier.

Most recently on the books at SWPL2 side Dundee United, the 25-year-old attacking player will add to Paul Brownlie’s attacking options this season.

“I’m really excited to be playing in this league again and even happier it’s for this club,” Napier said.

“I’ve played under Paul in the past and feel extremely lucky to get the opportunity to do so again alongside Leanne and Craig.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what this team can achieve this season and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”

Capped at Scotland under 15 and under 17 level, Napier brings experience and a host of abilities to the side.

“I’ve known Holly for several years and she will add real quality to the current squad,” head coach Brownlie added.

“I’m delighted to get her signed as she is a really experienced player.

“She’s integrated well within the squad so far.

“She is a great character who is keen to continue her development.”

We are holding open trials for our new Under 15 girls academy squad on Sunday 25 July 2021.

We are looking for players born in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. All players must be free agents.

Trials will begin on the Fir Park astro at 1.30pm and will last until 3.30pm with registration taking place at 1.15pm.
