‘Well boss Stuart McCall reckons some of the Pars’ off-field issues will make them even more difficult opponents.

The East End Park club posted notice of their intent to part-pay players’ monthly salaries in what has been a difficult few weeks for Scottish football.

However, far from demotivating players, McCall draws on the comparison of Hearts prior to Christmas and think his Steelmen side face an altogether more difficult task when the teams meet tomorrow afternoon.

“Our focus and preparation is exactly as it was when we came up against top-of-the-table Celtic last week,” said McCall.

“We always focus on ourselves, I am never done saying that, but they are fighting for their lives and we have to be wary of that. Not only that, with the financial situation happening there, it can sometimes galvanise a squad.

“Just look at Hearts when their players were having some issues with wages; they put together what has probably been their best run of the season so far.

“They were fighting and scrapping for each other and Dunfermline, I am sure, will be no different so we are under no illusions of just how difficult tomorrow’s match is going to be.”

Veteran full-back Stevie Hammell is desperate for ‘Well to keep up their recent rich vein of form decent last week’s setback at Celtic Park.

Prior to Saturday’s match in Glasgow, the Steelmen were unbeaten in seven, collecting five wins along the win and scoring twenty.

That’s the sort of standard Hammell expects from this talented ‘Well squad but the 30-year admits they face a tough task against a Dunfermline side fighting for their lives.

The former Scotland cap told MFC TV: “The boys are in confident mood; it wasn’t the result we were looking for last week but I thought it was a decent performance from us.

“We have to maintain our form as much as we can to try and consolidate our place in third. As others have said, if we didn’t finish third now then I think everyone would be disappointed.

“However, we’ve got to be wary of Dunfermline. Sometimes, when you get those sorts of off-field problems, it can bring the squad closer together and make you a more difficult opponent. But we’re in confident mood, we’re going there looking for the three points.”

Goalkeeper Lee Hollis has spoken of his delight at making a return to action five months after last pulling on the gloves.

The former Airdrie United stopper was forced into hip surgery in October and has faced an agonising rehabilitation programme with club physio John Porteous.

And, after joining in light training for the last fortnight, he managed the first forty-five minutes of Tuesday’s bounce game with Partick Thistle at Dalziel Park.

“It’s great to be back after five-and-a-half months on the sidelines,” said Hollis.

“Thankfully there was no niggles or problems and it feels good. There was a wee bit of nerves going into the game but, thankfully, it went well.

“It has been a frustrating time. I felt good in pre-season but my hip was getting worse and worse and I knew I had to get it done. I started light training a few weeks ago and was getting unrelated issues but this is the first time I’ve felt completely right so hopefully that continues.”

Under 19s coach Bobby Jenks has called on the youths to win every game from now to the end of the season and push for second place.

The young Steelmen are on a sensational run of form in 2012, maintaining a 100% record in both competitive and non-competitive matches.

That has propelled the side to fourth and although Hearts’ lead at the top looks insurmountable, Jenks insists ‘Well still have hope of nabbing second spot.

“We’ve been on a great run of form and that is testament to the hard work of Gordon Young and the fitness of the players,” said Jenks.

“You’ll constantly here about the Turkey trip but it has played a huge part in getting the players ready both mentally and physically.

“We’re now in a situation where the players are so full of confidence; they are just desperate for games. They fear no one and ‘bring it on’ is the motto.

“Although winning the league is now perhaps outwith our reach, there is no reason why this side now can’t go on and play a major part in the small group at the top of the table and finish second.”

The U19s face Aberdeen at Bathgate’s Creamery Park tomorrow afternoon – kick-off is 1pm.

Chief Executive Leeann Dempster has revealed the ‘Well Society is now just over half way to achieving its initial quarter of a million revenue target.

The Board have set a March 31st deadline to raise at least £250,000 to demonstrate the project is viable and over 250 fans have come forward to sign up already with the Steelmen are on course to create SPL history.

Leeann said, “We’ve had a brilliant response so far but we need more fans to come along and sign up.

“We have an evening planned this Tuesday where fans can come along and ask questions and, hopefully, join our revolution.

“I have been asked numerous times about the financing side of things. We don’t need the full membership fee up front. We are prepared to work out one to one payment plans to suit individual needs – that’s why we are having an evening where people can come along.

“We have one month for our fans to come out and support what we think is a brilliant initiative.”

A Motherwell reserve side edged out Partick Thistle in a nine-goal thriller at Dalziel Park this afternoon.

The Steelmen got off to the perfect start when Lee Erwin headed home Steven Lawless’ cross from the left hand side inside the opening minute.

Motherwell doubled their advantage twelve minutes later. Erwin’s excellent switch found Chris Humphrey hogging the right touchline. The Jamaican got past his marker before firing across the face where Bob McHugh was on hand to tuck home from close range.

Thistle brought one back from a corner before ‘Well added a third. McHugh collected on the edge of the box and after his low shot was blocked by the goalkeeper, Erwin followed in to tuck home for his second of the afternoon.

The visitors pulled one back again from another set-piece before Motherwell quickly restored their two goal advantage with a set-piece of their own. Ross Forbes’ curling free-kick wasn’t dealt with by the Thistle ‘keeper and McHugh was in the right place again to slam home into an empty net.

To their credit, Thistle pulled another goal back, a lovely one two and finish by the left full-back however, Motherwell wouldn’t be outdone and two later goals sealed the victory.

McHugh’s terrific slide-rule ball provided the assist for substitute Craig Moore who took a neat touch before firing through the legs of the outrushing keeper.

With about eight minutes to go, McHugh completed his hat-trick, getting on the end of a Francis-Angol cross to slot home to complete the scoring.

From the Forth Road Bridge and Perth:

Exit the M90 at Junction 3 and take the A907(Halbeath Road)into Dunfermline – the ground is on the right

From Kincardine Bridge and Alloa:

Take the A985 to the A994 into Dunfermline. Take Pittencrieff Street, Glen Bridge and Carnegie Drive to Sinclair Gardens Roundabout.Take the 1st exit toward the traffic lights then turn right into Ley’s Park Road.Take the second exit on the right into the Car Park at the rear of the stadium.

Parking: There is an official Car/Coach Park at the north end of the ground. Travelling supporters may find parking on the north side of the cemetery and then walking through the cemetery the simplest solution with the fastest get away. Alternatively, you may wish to park in the town centre, which has plenty of car parks and within 10-15 minutes walking distance of the ground.

By bus

Dunfermline Bus Station can be accessed, via travel from Buchanan Bus Station in Glasgow, on several services including Stagecoach services X24, X26 and X27. Thereafter travel on local services such as Stagecoach services 33 and 19A will take you to within 5 minutes walk of the stadium. By train

East End Park is within 15 minutes walk of two railway stations, the most recently opened Dunfermline Queen Margaret to the east of the town and Dunfermline Town which lies within the town centre itself and to the west of the stadium. Both stations are on the Fife circle line and are served by trains from Edinburgh Waverley.

Shaun Hutchinson’s yellow card at Celtic Park on Saturday has taken him over the disciplinary points threshold.

The 21-year English defender will start his one game ban from Saturday 10th March – meaning he will be forced to watch the Aberdeen match on 17th March from the stand.
