Team News

Calum Butcher remains sidelined.
Motherwell’s Fortunes
A 1-0 win against Queen’s Park seen Motherwell go three points clear on eight points in Group G, ahead of the midweek matches.
Jon Obika was on target for the Steelmen, making it two goals in three games.
With East Fife taking a bonus point against Queen of the South, Motherwell are top, a point ahead of the Fifers and two points ahead of Queen of the South.
Opposition Report
East Fife are gearing up for another season in League Two.
Finishing third last season and missing out on promotion to League One in the playoffs, The Fifers have been active in the summer window.
They have acquired experienced defender Brain Easton from Hamilton Accies, with fan-favourite and goal scorer Nathan Austin, also re-joining the club.
Austin made the perfect start to his second spell at East Fife, grabbing three goals and taking the match ball home against Elgin City in a 3-1 win in the second round of group stage fixtures.
The Fifers have had a successful Viaplay Cup campaign thus far, beating Elgin and earning the bonus point against Queen’s Park and Queen of the South.
They sit on seven points, two points ahead of third place.
Qualification permutations
It’s a straight shootout for top spot on Saturday, with the winners guaranteed to progress.
A draw and a bonus point, would be enough to see us into the next round in top spot.
A draw, with East Fife taking the bonus point would still see us ahead of East Fife on goal difference, with Queen of the South unable to catch us. The Doonhamers are currently on five points.
If Queen of the South win by more than two goals and Motherwell lose, Queen’s would go above us into second place and East Fife would finish top.
The best three runners-up qualify for the next round. Should we slip to second place, we would be on at least eight points.
As things stand, with lots of football still to be played, this is the highest second-placed total. However, this will most likely change between now and Saturday, with games taking place in multiple groups on Wednesday 26 July.
In our group, the second-placed team, East Fife, are on seven points.
In two of the other groups, the second-placed team are on seven points.
In four groups, the second-placed team are on six points.
In one group, the second-placed team are on five points.
