‘Well boss Stuart McCall insists his squad have to have the correct mentality when they come up against Queen’s Park in the Scottish Cup tomorrow.

The Steelmen face the amateurs at Fir Park for the first time since February 1984, another Scottish Cup tie which the Steelmen won 3-0.

Former Scotland midfielder McCall would take a repeat tomorrow but insists his side have to be professional in their approach against the Spiders; Gardner Spiers’ men having won their last three consecutive games.

“It’s all about attitude and application from us,” said McCall.

“I said that before the Clyde game (in the Scottish Communities League Cup) and to be fair to our lads, it was, and we ran out comfortable 4-0 winners.

“There’s no doubt Queen’s Park will come and have a really good go. They’ve got a lot of young players and if our mindset is not right and our focus isn’t what it should be, then we will come unstuck.

“We’ve got to go out there, play at a good tempo, and get a result. Our home fans deserve a good performance and we’ll be doing all we can to give them it tomorrow.”

Motherwell have today completed the signing of Estonian forward Henrik Ojamaa on a deal until the end of the current season.

Ojamaa, 20, joins after two successful trial periods at Fir Park. The Estonian youth international was most recently with Finnish side Rovaniemen Palloseura (RoPS) but left the club at the end of the Veikkausliiga season.

Born in the Estonian capital of Tallin, Henrik progressed through the ranks of local side FC Flora before joining the youth set-up at English club Derby County. He progressed through the system, signing a professional contract in the summer of 2009.

He left Pride Park a year later having never played a first-team game, although a short loan spell at non-league Stafford Rangers proved worthwhile.

He then joined 2. Bundesliga cracks Alemannia Aachen and made his debut later that year before moving on again, spending another loan spell at Fortuna Sittard in the Dutch Eerste Divisie.

His short stay in Finland was successful although he was unable to prevent RoPS from dropping out the top league. He will now join up with Stuart McCall’s side and will push for a place in this weekend’s squad to face Queen’s Park in the William Hill Scottish Cup 4th Round.

Speaking exclusively to MFC TV, Henrik said, “I’ve been a free agent now for a few months and had a couple of options but as soon as I knew Motherwell was interested in having a look then it was always going to be my number one choice.

“I am now going to do my best to challenge for a place in the first-team and I’ll see where it goes from there. I have only been here a short time but I really like the place, the manager is great and it’s a good group of players.  If something could materialise in the next few months or at the end of the season that would be great but first I need to prove myself and I am hoping to do that.”

Gordon Young and his Under 19s squad jet off for a two-week training camp in Turkey tomorrow courtesy of the SFA led Leonardo Da Vinci programme.

It’s a part of the EU funded Lifelong Learning Programme for young people aged 18 or above who want to improve both their working and language skills while experiencing life in another European country.

The programme is also an opportunity for the participant and receiving organisation to exchange knowledge and ideas and to gain understanding of others by comparing their different cultures.

And on the eve of departing, Young admits he is looking forward to leaving the cold and wind behind in exchange for a better training environment for his players.

He told MFC TV: “Trips like this are very important and with the way football is going in this country over the next couple of years, hopefully a nod towards a more seasonal fixture list, winter training camps will become more common-place.

“We have an opportunity to go away and work hard in a warmer climate. The conditions in Scotland over the last month or so have made it very difficult to train; there hasn’t been a week gone by since November where we haven’t had to seek some sort of indoor facility.

“However, with the DaVinci programme, we have excellent conditions in which to train and more importantly, can give these players a unique insight into a different sort of working environment abroad.”

Midfielder Stephen Hughes has left the club after his short-term deal with the club expired today.

Motherwell-born Hughes, 29, rejoined the club back in November and played his part, turning out four times in matches against St Johnstone, St Mirren, Hearts and Rangers.

However, with the playing budget tight and Motherwell flush with midfield options, boss McCall has opted to try and strengthen in other areas.

Speaking exclusively to motherwellfc.co.uk, the ‘Well boss said, “Stephen and I had a good chat today and came to the agreement that he would go and try to find regular first-team action elsewhere.

“He has played a handful here but he knows and wants to play regularly week in and week out and we can’t guarantee him that. He has missed a fair bit of football during 2011 and what he needs now is somewhere he can get a regular spot, build his fitness and get back to his best.

“He was terrific whilst he was here; his attitude was always spot on and we wish him all the best for the future.”

Referee for Saturday’s William Hill Scottish Cup 4th Round clash with Queen’s Park at Fir Park be rookie Kevin Clancy.

It will be the first time ever the 28-year old whistler has taken charge of a club from the SPL, having spent the last few years learning his trade in the lower leagues.

Indeed, he has taken charge of thirteen matches so far this campaign – the most high-profile of which being the First Division clash between Livingston and Morton towards the end of October.

He is also no stranger to a Scottish Cup tie. In the previous round, he was the man in the middle for Ross County’s 4-0 demolition of North Lanarkshire neighbours Albion Rovers in Dingwall.

He also had two matches in the competition last season – Stranraer’s 9-0 annihilation of St. Cuthbert Wanderers FC in the second round and East Stirling’s narrow 2-1 victory of Spartans FC in the third round.

Clancy will be familiar with Saturday’s opponents too – He overseen the Spiders’ 5-2 defeat at Annan back in August of this year. Last season, he also took charge of their wins over Livingston in the Challenge Cup, the 1-0 home win over Montrose at Hampden and the 2-1 defeat at Stranraer.

Kevin will be ably assisted by Francis Andrews and Brian McGarry with Euan Anderson on fourth official duties.

All the goals from Ibrox as strikes from David Healy, Sone Aluko and Stephen Craigan OG gave Rangers a 3-0 victory this afternoon.

‘Well boss Stuart McCall cut a frustrated figure after the match after blowing what he described as Motherwell’s “best chance” of a result at Ibrox.

Rangers have been ravished by injury with talisman Steven Naismith, Nikica Jelavic, Lee McCullock and Steven Whittaker all missing through injury and Kyle Lafferty being withdrawn early on with a suspected hamstring injury.

However, Motherwell never got going and Rangers ran our comfortable 3-0 winners without ever really getting into second gear.

“It’s as disappointing as I have felt after a defeat by Rangers; we’ve had heavier defeats but I really felt today we had a great opportunity,” said a visibly down McCall.

“I’ve seen other clubs come here and put in decent performances but I really don’t know what it is with us. I’ve asked the players in the dressing room, is it a lack of belief? For me, we won’t get a better chance to win here with Jelavic and Naismith out and Lafferty going off so early on.

“We didn’t do enough attacking-wise but, being honest, we were poor in just about every department. Our defending wasn’t great, we didn’t compete enough in midfield and we didn’t create enough up front.”
