Dylan Wells has agreed a two-year contract extension, which will see him remain at Fir Park until the summer of 2026. 

The young attacking midfielder made his first-team debut against Alloa Athletic in the Scottish Cup, before making his first league appearance as a second half substitute against Aberdeen.

“It’s great to see Dylan commit his future to the club,” manager Stuart Kettlewell said.

“We have had to fend off some interest from some big clubs here but I think Dylan understands the path and the journey the first-team here at Motherwell.

“He’s had a taste of that first-team action and when you see the likes of Lennon Miller, Mark Ferrie and Luca Ross all involved this season and making progress, it gives that extra incentive for a young player to try and kick on.”

“I’m really pleased to sign this deal,” Wells added.

“I’ve came through the ranks here and getting a taste of first-team experience here this season, only makes me hungrier to get more time on the pitch.

“Getting the deal complete was the first stage, now I need to knuckle down and show everyone what I can do.”

Motherwell’s Under 18s came back from the Capital with a point, after a 1-1 draw with Hearts on Thursday afternoon. 

Szymon Plesiewicz opened the scoring at the start of the second period for the Jambos before substitute Shay Nevans levelled the scoring.

Richard Foster named a strong starting 11, with a drizzle of first-team experience coming from Dylan Well and Luca Ross. In blustery conditions, both teams took time to adjust accordingly to the weather and the opening exchanges seen chances come to fruition.

On 13 minutes, the first chance came to the Steelmen. Olly Whyte produced a wonderful turn on the ball to take two opponents out the game before feeding a ball through for Luca Ross. L.Ross’ effort came off the post and Zack Tomany could only blaze over the bar from the follow up.

The first change of the game would come on the half hour mark, after McQuarrie came off due to injury.

Another bit of promising play from Wells followed next, with the attacker being tripped on the edge of the box. Wells took the subsequent free kick from inside the ‘D’, his effort was blocked and defender Scott Williamson had an audacious effort from 35 yards fall wide of the mark.

Motherwell continued to stay on top of their opponents and another opening would soon follow on 35 minutes. Max Ross chipped a lovely ball over the Hearts backline, towards a darting Wells. With pressure coming from the onrushing keeper and tracking back defender, Wells had a go on the half volley from the edge of the box and produced a fine save from Tas in the Hearts goal.

On the stroke of half time, Bogan was called into action for the first time after he had deal with a deflected shot from Muirhead.

Conditions wouldn’t improve for the start of the second half and only four minutes in, Hearts got themselves infront. A pass back to keeper Bogan would seem to be under control, however the young stopper slipped and Plesiewicz nicked in and poked into an empty net. 1-0.

Hearts almost doubled their lead when Zack Flatman was caught in possession and Bogan had to tip a Hearts effort over the bar.

On the hour mark, Foster opted to make changes and brought on Mikey Booth, Shay Nevans and John Joe Webb. The subs would appear to make an instant impact as Motherwell levelled the game.

Wells, once again, causing the Hearts defence problems, squared up his defender and rushed to the byline, before drilling a low cross into the six-yard box where substitute Nevans was on hand to knock home with his first touch of the match. 1-1.

With the wind in their sails, the ‘Well almost got in front on 66 minutes. Wells this time beating two defenders on the touchline, smashed a similar ball into the area that only just missed a sliding Nevans at the back post.

Wind would wreak havoc in the closing stages but Motherwell had the final opportunity of the match. In stoppage time, Wells’ cross found Nevans again, who flicked on and full-back Robbie Garcia couldn’t find a way past the keeper at the back stick.

An encouraging performance that warranted the three points, Motherwell will take all the positives into their final few matches of the Under 18 season.

Academy graduate Arran Bone has joined Gala Fairydean Rovers in the Lowland League on loan until the end of the season. 

The centre-back heads out on his first loan spell in search of first-team minutes.

Gala Fairydean Rovers are 12th in the league table.

Matty Connelly

Matty Connelly joined East Kilbride in December. He was named on the bench against Gretna before making his debut for the Lowland League side against Albion Rovers. Rovers came away with a 3-1 win, with East Kilbride remaining top of the league.

Ricki Lamie

Ricki Lamie is now up to 11 appearances for the Dee.

Ineligible for the match against Motherwell, Lamie has made three further appearances since the last loan update at the end of November.

He was involved in two defeats and a win in that time, with Dundee seeing two matches postponed in December.

Nathan McGinley

Nathan McGinley has now returned to the club, following his loan spell at Partick Thistle. He didn’t make an appearance in his time with the Jags and was named on the bench for our match against Hibernian on 2 January.

Ewan Wilson

December saw an upturn in results for Stirling Albion and Ewan Wilson, with Albion sitting on 18 points after 20 games.

It’s a tight league as, although currently eighth in the table, Stirling are only five points off of the playoff spots.

Ewan Wilson has started three and been a sub in two since our last update, taking his number of Stirling appearances up to ten.

Sam Campbell

Sam Campbell played 69 minutes of Scottish Cup action, in a penalty shootout defeat to Dumbarton at the end of November.

An unused substitute in last three matches, Campbell is now on 11 appearances for Annan Athletic. Campbell has now departed the club.

Robbie Garcia

Robbie Garcia played on five occasions for Cowdenbeath.

He has returned to the club.

Barry Maguire

Barry Maguire hasn’t featured for Kidderminster Harriers since the start of November. Maguire is on 15 appearances with his loan spell set to expire this month.

Ross Tierney

Ross Tierney has had battles with injury in the last month, featuring only twice for Walsall since our last update.

The Saddlers sit 13th in the table.

Adam MacDonald

Adam MacDonald has been enjoying plenty game time with Cowdenbeath.

He started three games in December, which resulted in three wins for his side. He was also a second half substitute against Inverness CT in the Scottish Cup.

Cowdenbeath are 9th in the table as they look to continue their run of form.

Robbie Mahon

Despite off the field troubles hitting Edinburgh City, Robbie Mahon has impressed on the field.

Scoring in the last five consecutive games, netting six goals in total, Mahon is now on seven goals for the season.

The 20-year-old has now returned to the club.

Mark Ferrie

Mark Ferrie joined Stenhousemuir on a loan deal until January and has made seven appearances so far.

Stenny are 11 points clear of second placed Peterhead as they motor closer to promotion. They face Forfar at the weekend, in what will be Mark Ferrie’s last match before his loan expires.

Sam Campbell has left the club following the expiry of his contract. 

Having suffered a significant knee injury last year, the 19-year-old signed a short term deal in the summer that would last until January.

The centre-back joined Annan Athletic on loan at the start of the season, where he made 11 appearances.

We wish Sam the best for the future.

Ricki Lamie

Ricki Lamie has now made eight appearances for the Dee. A strong month of results has seen them climb to fifth in the standings.

He’s started five of the last six matches for Tony Docherty, and was an unused substitute against Livingston.

In those five starts, he’s been at the heart of the defence that has managed to keep four clean sheets.

Nathan McGinley

Nathan McGinley has missed the last five matches at Partick Thistle.

Ewan Wilson

Since our last update, Ewan Wilson has made two starts and one appearance from the bench. It’s been a tricky run of form for Stirling as they haven’t won in the last five games.

Despite this, in the congested league 1 table, Stirling are seventh in the table but will have one eye on a playoff spot that is only seven points away.

Sam Campbell

With ten appearances already to his name at Annan Athletic, Sam Campbell is continuing his development.

He’s made one appearance in the last four, as a second-half substitute against Edinburgh City.

Annan were on a difficult run of results, however have seen improvement recently as they drew their last two games.

Robbie Garcia

Cowdenbeath have three draws and two losses to their name in the last five, with Robbie Garcia not featuring in any for the blue brazil.

Barry Maguire

Barry Maguire is already closing in on 20 appearances for Kidderminster Harriers and has played close to 900 minutes of National League football in his time down south.

Despite currently sitting bottom of the National League standings, Maguire has been a regular feature for the Harriers.

They haven’t won in their last five matches.

Ross Tierney

Ross Tierney has started eight matches since our last update.

He’s scored once and assisted once in that time. Tierney scored in an FA Cup tie that was live on ITV against Sheppey United.

It’s now 16 appearances for Walsall in all competitions for Tierney with The Saddlers sitting in 17th place in League Two.

Adam MacDonald

Adam MacDonald has started three of the last six matches, and has been a substitute in two for Cowdenbeath.

The Blue Brazil are sitting in the middle of the pack in the Lowland League.

Robbie Mahon

Michael McIndoe took the reigns of Edinburgh City last month and has seen an improvement in form.

Mahon has started the last five matches and has put in some of man of the match performances. The winger has notched two assist in that time and bagged himself three goals, including a double against Alloa in their last outing.

City have closed the gap to ninth placed Annan as they look to get themselves off the bottom of the table.

Mark Ferrie

Ferrie has made three substitute appearances since our last update for Stenhousemuir. He picked up a head knock against Spartans and was left out of their last two games for precautionary reasons.

Stenny are flying high at the top of the tree in League Two, as they bid for a promotion push this season.

Defender Zander McAllister has been named in Scotland Under 16 squad. 

The up-and-coming stars travel to Wales next month for a triple header in the Victory Shield.

Their first match is against Wales in Denbigh on Monday 6 November before taking on Republic of Ireland on Wednesday 8 November.

Their third match is against Northern Ireland on Saturday 11 November.

Scotland finished second place in this tournament last time out, recording wins over Northern Ireland and Wales. However, a loss to Republic of Ireland meant they fell short of their ultimate goal and will look to go one better this time round.

We have ten players currently out on loan, who have been in action this past month. 

Ricki Lamie

Since his debut against St Johnstone, Ricki Lamie is yet to miss a minute of action for Dundee. Three draws and a defeat for the Dee leave them 10th in the cinch Premiership. The centre back picked up an assist in a 2-2 draw with Kilmarnock in September.

Their most recent game was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch against Ross County.

Nathan McGinley

Joining Partick Thistle on loan until January on the deadline day for loan deals, McGinley was thrown straight onto the bench for Thistle’s match against Dunfermline.

He would be an unused substitute against Dunfermline and was so again a week later, against Inverness CT.

Partick Thistle are currently third in the Championship, four points off the top with McGinley looking for regular game time having returned from a long-term injury this summer.

Ewan Wilson

Ewan Wilson made a loan switch to Stirling Albion and has wasted no time in making an impact at the Albion.

He made is debut against Cove Rangers in a 2-2 draw, where he played 80 minutes of the match before putting in a man of the match performance in Stirling’s 1-0 win against Queen of the South at Palmerston on Saturday.

The 18-year-old notched an assist as he continues his progression with the League 1 side for the remainder of the campaign with Stirling currently sitting fifth in the table.

Sam Campbell

Since our last loan update, Sam Campbell has found regular minutes tricky to come by with Annan Athletic.

The young centre-back has only featured once since 26 August, however that came last Saturday against Cove Rangers when he was a half time substitute.

Annan were 2-0 down at the half time stage, with Campbell coming on in the second half looking to stiffen the defensive line up, the Galabankies came close to an impressive comeback however narrowly lost the game 3-2.

Robbie Garcia

Robbie Garcia continues to work away at Cowdenbeath, with the 17-year-old now up to five appearances for the Lowland League side.

He played 77 minutes in their extra time win over Linlithgow Rose in the Scottish Cup and started again against Cumbernauld Colts the following week.

Garcia played 10 minutes in their last outing, which was a 3-2 win over Gretna which leaves the Blue Brazil 9th in the table.

Barry Maguire

It’s been a tricky start to the season for Kidderminster Harriers in the National League, with them currently sitting second bottom in the standings.

Despite this, Barry Maguire has been handed plenty minutes on the pitch so far. With nine appearances already for the Worcestershire side, Maguire has started five and been a substitute in four games.

A 1-0 win in their last outing against Wealdstone, could just be the trigger for a run of form. Maguire and Kidderminster are in FA Cup action this weekend, in the fourth qualifying round, against Ashton United.

Ross Tierney

Ross Tierney and Walsall are in action this evening in the EFL Cup, taking on Forest Green Rovers.

Since our last update, Walsall have played five matches, winning one, drawing one and losing three. Tierney recorded an assist in a 3-1 win against Bradford in that time, and has started all three of the last three games.

Adam MacDonald

Adam MacDonald has started the last three matches for Cowdenbeath, in all competitions.

The attacking midfielder has now racked up 10 appearances for the Lowland League side this season, scoring two goals in the process.

Robbie Mahon

Robbie Mahon has a new manager at Edinburgh City in the form of Michael McIndoe, who joined the club this week.

Mahon has made two substitute appearances in the last month, where he managed an assist for City’s only goal of the game against Kelty Hearts last weekend.

With ten appearances to his name this season, the new era at Edinburgh City starts against Hamilton Accies at New Douglas Park.

Mark Ferrie

Mark Ferrie made his debut for Stenhousemuir against Clyde in a 2-2 draw. The striker featured for 13 minutes as a second half substitute.

Stenny’s latest match against Elgin City was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Motherwell were held to a 1-1 draw with Dundee United this afternoon at K-Park in the Under 18s league. 

The first chance of the game came on seven minutes. Zack Tomany battled to bring the ball under control from a throw in, he worked half a yard on the edge of the box before registering a shot on target.

The game would begin to become cagey there after, with very for chances for either side presenting themselves.

In fact, the next chance of the game wouldn’t come until the 35th minute of the match when forward Tomany latched onto a through ball from Mikey Booth, the striker raced through on goal and his strike was saved onto the bar by the United keeper.

Four minutes later however, Dundee United were in front. Josh Bogan seemed to come out of his box to clear the ball but the referee adjudged his studs to be too high and awarded a free-kick. Dundee United’s number 10 stepped up and curled the ball into the net from the subsequent free kick.

With a lacklustre first half performance now behind them, Motherwell came out all guns blazing for the second half, drawing themselves level in the process. After sustained possession, Campbell Forest volleyed into the bottom left corner from the right edge of the box to bring the game level after 50 minutes.

Motherwell continued to push forward in search of a second and it nearly came on 65 minutes. Brannan McDermott got on the end of a pass forward on the right wing before crossing into the box, Booth cut the ball back and Devon Johnstone tried to volley home but his effort was just off target.

Nathan Lawson came off the bench and was involved in the action straight away on 73 minutes. He twisted and turned in the middle of the pitch before driving into the penalty area and unleashing a strike into the side netting.

Dundee United would see a header from a corner headed off the line in one of their very few chances in the second half but on 83 minutes, Motherwell had another effort. McDermott again getting forward from right-back, this time he crossed into the box and Lawson managed to lay the ball off for goalscorer Forest but this time, his strike went wide of the goal.

Motherwell came close to winning the game with the last attack of the match through midfielder Olly Whyte. Tomany kept the ball alive from a cross and laid it back to the midfielder, he shifted it onto his right foot and seen his low, driven effort saved by the keeper.

The game ended 1-1, with Motherwell much improved in the second period.
