With first choice keeper Aston Oxborough out injured, Ellery Balcombe was recruited in January 2025 to take the spot between the sticks. A player with extensive knowledge of Scottish football having played with St Mirren for the first six months of the 24/25 campaign, Balcombe with find it an easy adjustment to life in Motherwell.
That spell at St Mirren, where made 26 appearances including games on the European stage, was a successful one for the player, where he played the most football in his career with a club. Highly thought of at Premier League side Brentford, which is shown by continued contract extensions since his first pro deal back in 2016, the 25-year-old keeper will be looking to impress and battle out for the number one jersey upon Aston Oxborough’s return from injury.
