Motherwell suffered a humbling defeat at Ibrox, losing 7-1 to Rangers.
Off the back of wins over St Mirren and Dundee, the Steelmen went to Ibrox feeling confident – but it was certainly an afternoon to forget.
Rangers made their mark in the game early, with a Scott Arfield goal in the eighth minute.
Not long after, Morelos had his shot but sent his header flying over the bar.
But the Steelmen managed to claw back control and Bowman got the ball to Main who tapped it in from two yards out, taking them equal.
The hosts continued to make chances for themselves, but an Ovie Ejaria shot clanged off the crossbar.
In the 30th minute, McHugh went into the book for a challenge on Morelos. And it got worse soon after, when he was shown yellow for the second time just two minutes later for handball inside the box.
It proved a pivotal moment – Tavernier slotted in the penalty taking Rangers into a 2-1 lead.
A corner just before half time was converted by Morelos, who found the back of the net with a header from the post.
Both Rangers and Motherwell made changes going into the second 45, with Andy Rose coming on for Ryan Bowman and Gareth McAuley taking the place of Nicola Katic.
Middleton sent a wide ball fizzing into the box, past Trevor Carson and found the back of the net to give the hosts a 4-1 lead in the 59th minute.
Then, Arfield had his shot at a second goal – as he was left with plenty of space in the box, and took his time comfortably sending the ball past Carson.
David Turnbull was then subbed by Allan Campbell, followed soon after by Christian Mbulu coming on for Gael Bigirimana – but it made little difference.
‘Well had one of their only shots in the second half thanks to Chris Cadden, who shot down the wing and tried to find Andy Rose with a low cross, but missed him by just a few inches amidst calls for a penalty.
Rangers’ sixth goal came from Eros Grezda, who again had plenty of space to cut in front of the box – and there was nothing Carson could do but watch it glide past him.
Ejaria took another shot with a strong strike from outside the box, but it went just wide of goal.
Grezda followed it up mere minutes later, getting his head to a cross in from the right. Rangers 7-1 Motherwell.
In the 86th minute Curtis Main managed to fight off opposition outside the box and turn to take a strike, but it soared well over the crossbar.
