Ricki Lamie: “We need to be at our best”

Defender Ricki Lamie reckons Motherwell will need to be at their very best to get a result in the cinch Premiership against Dundee United.

A positive result midweek has meant there is a positive atmosphere going into the game but that is not what wins football matches says Lamie.

Louis Moult joins on loan for the season

Louis Moult has returned to Motherwell on a season-long loan from Burton Albion.

The 30-year-old returns to Fir Park after a sensational first spell with the club where he scored 50 goals in 98 games.

Fan favourite left Motherwell in 2018 to join Preston North End.

“To get Louis on board is a major coup,” manager Steven Hammell said.

“I played alongside Louis and I am fully aware of what he is capable of and what he will bring to this team.

“I’m excited to see what he has to offer this season.”

    How to follow game online

PPV and virtual season ticket options are not available for cinch Premiership matches this season. This will be the case for all 2022/23 cinch Premiership matches this season.

If you are outside the UK, you can watch the game via Motherwell TV.

Should you be in the UK, it will be live commentary only.

    The Story of the Match

Dundee United go into this one with Liam Fox in temporary charge following the earlier sacking of Jack Ross. The Tangerines are still searching for their first league win but a midweek win over Livingston in the Premier Sports cup will give them confidence.

Motherwell also bounced back from a disappointing defeat to Kilmarnock, with a convincing cup win over Inverness Caley Thistle at Fir Park.

Kevin van Veen continued his fine goalscoring by netting a hat-trick, taking his tally to seven goals in six domestic games.

In what is usually a tight fixture between evenly matched teams, home advantage has proven to be key, with the team playing at home only losing once in the last 9 meetings.

Scott Fox joins Queen of the South on loan

Goalkeeper Scott Fox has joined League one side Queen of the South on loan for the rest of the season.

The 35-year-old goalkeeper will join up with Willie Gibson’s team in a bid to get much needed game time.

Fox joined Motherwell in 2020, and despite not playing in a competitive match, has most recently helped the coaching staff and goalkeepers at the club.

“Scott has been a massive help since I came in as manager,” Steven Hammell said.

“He has been looking after the goalkeepers in training and been in the dugout alongside me for matches.

“We spoke and he is eager to continue as a player so it makes sense that he goes out on loan and gets back to playing.”

    Young defenders secure loan moves

David Devine has joined Alloa Athletic on loan until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old, who has recently recovered from a couple of hamstring injuries, will join up with Brian Rice and his squad for the remainder of their League one campaign.

“David has had a difficult time with injury in the last two seasons,” manager Steven Hammell said.

“We think he is over that now and this is a chance for him to play regular first team football at a really good club and to get into a routine of matches.

“We will closely monitor his progress and look forward to seeing how he gets on.”

Logan Dunachie has joined Lowland League leaders East Kilbride on a six-month loan.

A product of the Motherwell academy, the centre back has impressed within the ranks at the club and goes out on loan to gain valuable experience.

“We think of Logan very highly and I think this is the correct time for him to go out on loan and get some game time,” manager Steven Hammell added.

“We wish him all the best for the his time at K-Park”

    Juhani Ojala departs

Juhani Ojala has left Motherwell by mutual consent.

The 33-year-old Finnish international joined Motherwell in the summer of 2021 and went on to make 24 appearances for the Steelmen, scoring one goal.

“Juhani leaves with our best wishes,” manager Steven Hammell said.

“He is an excellent professional, but we feel it is in the best interests of both parties that he should look for opportunities to play more regular football elsewhere.”

Everyone at Motherwell Football Club would like to thank Juhani for his efforts during his time at Fir Park and wish him every success in his future career.

Intensity sparks intensity // Motherwell 4-0 Inverness CT

Motherwell entered the Premier Sports cup at the second round stage, two games away from Hampden.

Their first obstacle was Championship side Inverness Caledonian Thistle, who travelled to Fir Park looking to cause a cup upset.

However, Motherwell put in an excellent performance to assert their dominance in the match with Kevin van Veen continuing his fine goalscoring run, adding three more to the tally.

Four goals and a clean sheet secured, Motherwell are drawn against cup holders Celtic in the Quarter-Finals as they bid to continue their cup run.
