Free e-clinic offers workplace mental health insight

Free e-clinic offers workplace mental health insight

Expert tips on mental health awareness in the workplace are on offer during our main partner Paycare’s next free e-clinic.

Kerry B Mitchell, their wellbeing manager and mental health first aid trainer, will lead the online session from 10am to 11am on Wednesday 14 July.

She will be joined by long-standing HR professional Paul Owen and Zen Communications Managing Director Felicity Wingrove, to discuss how mental health awareness can enhance morale and wellbeing in the workplace, and how managers can put wellbeing at the heart of the working environment.

Attendees will also find out about recognising warning signs, approaching meaningful conversations around mental health, how to access further resources, and fostering conditions for good physical and mental health.

To book your free place on the Workplace Mental Health e-clinic, simply click here. For more information about the range of MHFA-Accredited Mental Health Training offered by Kerry and the Paycare Wellbeing team, visit paycare.org/wellbeing.

“It’s vital that team leaders and managers have an insight into wellbeing so they can recognise the signs and symptoms of mental ill-health, support their teams and signpost to relevant sources of assistance,” said Kerry.

“Life has been incredibly tough for all of us over the past 18 months. With stress, anxiety and burnout all on the rise, it’s more important than ever for organisations to be supportive of their employees’ needs. Plus, with happier and healthier employees, organisations enjoy higher levels of productivity, less presenteeism, and increased loyalty.”

Felicity added: “At Zen, having a good understanding of mental health enables us to fully support the team to flourish within their professional and personal lives.

“Creating a workplace culture where mental health can be discussed openly has been vital to our success as individuals and as an agency.

“Employee wellbeing is so much more than just a tick-box or a recruitment headline, there is a significant commercial benefit too: less sickness absence, better productivity and longer retention of staff being among the advantages of looking after staff health and happiness.

“We’ve been shortlisted for multiple employee wellbeing awards, partly because of the training we’ve undertaken with Kerry and Paycare – but more importantly, we’ve been able to be there for each other through the pandemic and recognise when individuals might need a little more support – and what that support might look like.”

Introducing the 2021/22 Motherwell FC home kit

Introducing the Motherwell FC home kit for the 2021/22 season.

This year’s strip will mark our homecoming to Fir Park, after spending the last campaign without fans in the stadium.

The fresh, pared-down kit also harks back to our past with the claret band now extending to the back of the shirt, breaking for the name and number.

You can pre-order your 2021/22 kit now. Pre-order deliveries will arrive in mid-July.

This kit is all about the detail.

We know how important our colours are. Now it’s emblazoned on the inside of the neck too, with our necktape stating “claret and amber colours true”.

A new rubberised silicon badge allows for a sharper design, colour and increased comfort. Plus there’s claret and amber flashes throughout our kit on the collar and cuffs.

We return to claret shorts, with an amber side panel with white trim. The socks also have our claret, amber and white detail, with a claret top and amber bottom.

Not-for-profit health cash plan provider Paycare again sponsor our kit, while we continue to raise awareness of the importance of the anti-suicide message on our sleeve through North Lanarkshire Suicide Prevention. Glen’s Vodka also feature once again on the back of the neck.

    Martin Foyle departs

    Martin Foyle departs

Martin Foyle has left his role as Motherwell FC’s head of recruitment.

The Englishman has departed for Northampton Town, ending his six-year stint at Fir Park.

During his tenure, Martin was involved in the successful recruitment of a string of players who not only contributed greatly in claret and amber, but also helped generate transfer fees for the club.

“We thank Martin for his six years at Motherwell,” chief executive Alan Burrows said.

“His hard work and endeavours during that spell helped us recruit quality players, which played their part in fantastic success on and off the park.

“Martin and the club had decided to mutually part ways several months ago. Therefore, we have already appointed a replacement, who has been working with manager Graham Alexander on summer business. His appointment will be announced shortly.”

We wish Martin all the best for the future.

    Suicide Prevention Lanarkshire app launched

    Suicide Prevention Lanarkshire app launched

A handy new smartphone app has been launched to provide practical support for people who are having suicidal thoughts or who may know someone who is.

The Suicide Prevention in Lanarkshire app is packed with useful information to help keep people safe and provide guidance on how to look out for others you may be concerned about.

Details about training and awareness sessions, facts and myths around suicide, how to start the conversation about suicide, and how to access crucial support helplines and much more.

The app has been created in partnership with both North and South Lanarkshire Council’s suicide prevention initiatives.

Download the Suicide Prevention Lanarkshire app from your mobile device app store by searching for SP Lanarkshire.

“This newly designed app will provide a valuable resource for people concerned about suicide,” Lynne McDonald, Suicide Prevention Lead in North Lanarkshire explained.

“People can use it if they are having thoughts of suicide, or if they are concerned about someone else who may be considering suicide.

“It offers a number of features providing practical information and support which could prove vital. ‘Let’s Talk’ is the message we want to get across as we try to encourage people to talk more openly about suicide so we can all work together to help prevent it.”

Paul Kelly, Depute Leader of North Lanarkshire Council added: “It is so important that we keep raising awareness about suicide prevention in our communities. The emotional impact on families, friends and communities bereaved by suicide is devastating and can have awful long-lasting effect on those left behind.

“This newly developed app will help with our efforts here in Lanarkshire to raise public awareness about suicide prevention.”

We are long-standing partners of Suicide Prevention North Lanarkshire.

“It is important we continue to talk about suicide and do everything we can to help people who are considering suicide,” Alan Burrows, chief executive of Motherwell FC, said.

“Suicide affects so many families in this area and has had a direct impact on our supporters’ families over recent years.

“We want everyone to know that support is out there, and to encourage people to talk openly.”

Now more than ever we need your backing

Now more than ever we need your backing

As we begin to get a bit more clarity about how we might finally exit from lockdown, we ask you to consider becoming a season ticket holder for 2021/22.

This has been a very difficult year for all of us. I hope that you and your family are safe and well. As a club and support, we should be proud of the role we have played in handling the pandemic.

We have stood together as a community, making sure we give each other comfort and hope. As a club, in conjunction with our Community Trust, we are always looking for ways to help, including our delivery of food parcels to those in need, collections for various food banks around Lanarkshire and ensuring the town’s Christmas lights were put up across the festive period.

Our club is a family. A family which extends to all of those we come into contact with, whether they follow our team or not. We have demonstrated this in the most trying of times and we will continue to do so.

We can now turn to what lies in front of us, which we think could include the return of supporters to Fir Park in time for the start of the new season.

When we asked you to buy season tickets for the 2020/21 campaign, that involved a huge leap of faith. We could offer no assurances on when you would be able to see the team in person, nor even if you would be at Fir Park at all over the year.

As we all know, our stadium sat empty, without your presence for all 22 of the matches we played. And yet you committed to us in your thousands, buying tickets and playing a major part in ensuring we could continue to operate on and off the pitch.

We also made a pledge at that time, which was that you would be able to see 19 league games in person, no matter the circumstances. We will honour that commitment and ensure that everyone who bought a season ticket for 2020/21 will get another one for 2021/22 at no extra cost. The philosophy of our club is simple to state – do the right thing by our supporters. And we will.

We will also offer the option to claim your money back in full. If anyone needs that refund then please do ask for it.

In addition, we are providing two other alternatives. Firstly, if you are in a position to do so, we are giving you the opportunity to donate money to our Community Trust to help continue the exceptional work we have done both prior to and during the pandemic.

We are also launching a new initiative called Well In, where supporters can make a contribution towards free season tickets for those who are unemployed in our area, as well as low-income families.

We want to make our club as inclusive as possible and try to remove the financial barrier for those who struggle the most to be part of our club and community.

We hope you can support us in this and, to help further, the club will match all funds raised to ensure as many free season tickets as possible are given out. So if donations to Well In reach £40,000, the club will distribute £80,000 worth of season tickets.

We will soon return to Fir Park and your continued support is vital. Not only for the team on the pitch when you are in the stands, but also to allow us to continue our work as a club and a force for good for our local community.

Please support us by taking up the offer of a free season ticket, or buy a season ticket if you were unable to join us last time. Better still, if there are friends or family members who you can encourage to come along with you, show them the way. We have frozen the prices from last year to encourage as many as possible to join. And, if you are able, please consider making a donation to the Community Trust or to Well In to help others become part of our family.

We are about so much more than the 90 minutes. We are a community. As we return to some form of normality, we cherish the chance to share great moments with those closest to us.

We wish you, your family and your friends continued good health. These have been remarkable times. We have shown unity, strength and patience to get to this point. I want nothing more than for us to be back together at Fir Park. See you there.

    Jim McMahon
    Chairman
