The past year has been an exceptionally challenging one for all of us.

On top of worries about our health and the wellbeing of our loved ones, many have also had to contend with worries about their jobs and, in many cases, facing unemployment.

Beyond the challenges of Covid-19, our area also faces economic issues in normal times. Our unemployment rate is higher than the Scottish and British average, and many other families and individuals are surviving on low incomes.

In the 1980s and early 1990s, our town was going through another crisis with high unemployment. Then, the club, the fans and local businesses rallied around to help people receive free tickets for matches. We displayed our community spirit and care for each other, ensuring people remained part of our family and stayed in contact with people, while they tried to get back on their feet.

Now, we once again want to give something back to those in our area who want to get to the football, and help them share in the community spirit and friendship that being in our stadium brings. We want everyone to feel able to be part of our club, and remove the financial barrier to entry where possible.

We are launching our Well In scheme, providing free season tickets to the unemployed and low-income families in our area. It is in our DNA to improve people’s lives where we possibly can. Recently, we’ve noticed the growing trend of people seeking alternative escapes, such as online casino zonder Cruks, which offers a form of entertainment that bypasses certain national regulations. While our scheme focuses on offering a more communal and physical experience at Fir Park, we understand the allure of other forms of entertainment. Giving people the lifeline of a network and an escape every fortnight at Fir Park could make the world of difference.

We’re asking supporters who feel financially able to donate towards the scheme this year. All donations of any value are welcome, with 100% of the money going towards the purchase of season tickets.

In return, the club will match fund all donations to ensure as many season tickets as possible are made available to our community.

It’s easy to do this. Head to tickets.motherwellfc.co.uk and then press ‘season tickets’ from the top menu.

You’ll then be given the option to choose where in the stadium you would like to sit. From there, you can create yourself an account and then buy your season ticket for the 2021/22 campaign.

At the start of the 2020/21 season, we pledged to season ticket holders that they would see – in person – 19 Premiership matches at Fir Park in return for their purchase.

At that time, we were confident that supporters would be back home at some stage in the campaign, even as early as the autumn.

Now, as we know, that never happened, and we have played every match behind closed doors.

Despite that, our commitment remains unchanged. If you bought a season ticket for 2020/21, we will automatically give you a season ticket for 2021/22 for free.

You do not need to spend any more money. We will honour our pledge and send you a new season card soon.

We will forever be grateful for your decision to spend money last year when there was no certainty over what would happen next. We are incredibly appreciative, considering many of you will have been going through difficult times, worrying about your health, your family and perhaps even your job. We want to repay your faith by welcoming you back to Fir Park at no extra cost.

We are also mindful that some of you may need the money back from your season ticket instead, as an alternative to a free season ticket. A lot of fans have also approached us about making further donations to the club. In recognition of that, we are asking you to consider donating to our Community Trust and help us continue the excellent work they’ve done over the last year.

If you didn’t buy a season ticket in 2020/21 but want to now, we’d be delighted to welcome you back for the new campaign. Season tickets are now on sale – just go to tickets.motherwellfc.co.uk to buy. We’ve frozen our prices from last year, and we’re still offering the great incentive of up to two free season tickets for kids.

At the time of writing, we know that restrictions on large outdoor gatherings will begin to ease on Monday 17 May.

We are encouraged by the Scottish Government’s decision to allow 25% of Hampden Park to be open for the UEFA Euro 2020 matches in June. We hope to be able to update you all soon on plans for opening the gates here in time for the Premier Sports Cup group stages in July and the start of the Premiership campaign soon after.

How do I get my free season ticket?

If you bought a season ticket in 2020/21, we will give you a free season ticket for 2021/22.

You don’t need to do anything to claim your ticket. We will automatically activate your account for 2021/22.

We will send out new season ticket cards ahead of the start of the 2021/22 season, so look out for yours in the post. You’ll need this card to gain entry to the stadium. If you don’t receive yours before the first game of the season, please call us on 01698 333333.

Our season ticket brochure

We’re switching off our social media feeds over the weekend.

For too long, social media platforms have failed to do enough to stop online abuse.

We have seen our players suffer racist abuse, vile personal attacks and other victimisation on these platforms. Often, these remarks come from anonymous accounts which are untraceable. And even when we report the issue using the tools available, little is done.

We want greater regulation by social media platforms to put a stop to it once and for all.

Simply, enough is enough. By going silent, we are sending that message loud and clear. Football is united against discrimination and online abuse.

Our accounts on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter will fall silent at 1500 BST on Friday 30 April until 2359 on Monday 3 May.

The ‘Well Shop will reopen to the public on Monday 26 April.

Having been closed since Christmas, we’re ready to welcome supporters back to the store.

To mark the return, fans will be able to take advantage of a half-price sale on all 2020/21 replica kit and trainingwear.

The shop will resume normal opening hours from Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 5pm, and Saturday from 9.30am to 1pm.

Click & Collect will be available during all opening hours.

Please note that there will be a two-week window for any Christmas returns and exchanges.

Customers should return any pre-Christmas purchases before Tuesday 10 May with proof of purchase.

Bevis Mugabi, Devante Cole, Charles Dunne and Sherwin Seedorf all play professional football for Motherwell FC.

They’ve all also been targeted based on their race in their lives, both during their time as players and in life generally.

In a candid chat amongst the four, they tell of the racist abuse they’ve suffered, living with the perception of being targeted for their race, the Black Lives Matter campaign and “taking the knee” before matches, and how they hope the world can change to make it equal for all.

Our partners Paycare are hosting another free e-clinic focused around stress and workplace wellness.

Ways to combat and cope with stress will be shared during the latest in a series of hour-long online sessions hosted by their wellbeing manager Kerry B Mitchell, starting at 10am on Tuesday 6 April.

She will be joined by David Webster, CEO of the Dougie Mac Hospice – a charity that offers specialised care for patients with life-limiting illnesses when a cure is no longer possible.

The hospice provides free care to more than 3,500 patients each year in Stoke-on-Trent, North Staffordshire and the surrounding villages, as well as offering support to their families and carers.

“It’s important that colleague wellbeing isn’t simply tokenism, but that it’s woven into the tapestry of a values-driven organisation’s culture, as a natural part of what you stand for,’ said David.

“If colleague wellbeing isn’t part of a broader canvas then it will struggle, but if it’s a natural fit within the culture of the organisation then it has every chance of long-term resonance.

“An example of considered workplace wellbeing is that clinical staff within our organisation have reflection time built into their day, but we believe that fundraisers and those within HR and marketing teams, for example, are all part of the same organisation so they should also be able to have that time where they reflect on how they are, and whether anything is going on around them which is impacting them.”

Kerry added: “Even before the pandemic, three-quarters of adults were reporting in the previous year they had felt so stressed they were unable to cope. Recent research shows two-thirds have felt more stressed since Coronavirus restrictions began in March 2020.

“That’s why it’s so important for us to share information about the strategies which can be used to cope with stress, and combat it, as well as enabling e-clinic attendees to understand more about positive coping strategies.

“April is Stress Awareness Month too, so it’s a good time to get organisations focused on how they can support employees who are struggling with stress, as well as equipping individuals with the tools they need to effectively combat the stress they are experiencing.”

The session will particularly focus on how an organisation’s culture can impact employee stress levels, including key values around workplace wellbeing, initiatives that make a positive difference, and information about The Culture Audit.

“When we started taking the knee at the start of the season, it had an impact. For the first few weeks, the message was loud and clear. Now it has been lost.

“Taking a knee has become something someone does now for the sake of it. It has completely lost its meaning.

“As a squad, we spoke and asked ourselves ‘why are we doing this anymore? Is it having any impact at all?’. The answer was a clear no.

“Taking a knee has become an empty gesture. Instead, we want those in power to take real and immediate action on racism.

“Apathy and complacency have set into the routine. We want our actions to cause a realisation and a reaction.

“Racism is apparent everywhere in the day-to-day life of society. People need to realise change is required.

“Players, clubs, authorities and society now need to unite, and fight for a level playing field for all.”

We’re raising funds for SAMH by selling off programmes from ‘the game that never was’ against Aberdeen on 13 March 2020.

The fixture at Fir Park was cancelled on the day football shut down due to the Covid-19 outbreak, with Motherwell ending the curtailed season in third spot in the Premiership.

We’ve 300 copies of the programme that was printed to give away in exchange for a donation of your choice to SAMH, Scotland’s largest mental health charity.

The cover price was £3, but you’re welcome to donate as you see fit for a great cause. All monies raised go directly to SAMH.
