Fir Park will return to full capacity from our Scottish Cup match with Greenock Morton onwards.

The Scottish Government announced on Tuesday that temporary restrictions on spectator numbers will be lifted from Monday 17 January.

Having only been able to welcome 500 of you to our match with Livingston before the winter break, we’re back to normal for the cup tie on Saturday 22 January.

Tickets are available to buy now from our online ticketing portal.

If you’re a season ticket holder, your seat is being held for you to purchase. To buy, just log in to the ticketing portal and you will see the reservation notice. When you buy, your ticket will immediately be added to your season card.

Fans can also buy from the ticket office at Fir Park or by calling 01698 333333.

Covid restrictions

Covid-19 certification checks will now be in place at all matches.

At Fir Park, we require that you are either:

• fully vaccinated, which will include a booster vaccine for those who had a second dose more than four months ago; or
• able to provide proof of a negative lateral flow test.

We also advise that all fans take a lateral flow test before travelling to the match, regardless of their vaccination status.

Morton fans

Morton fans can buy from us direct by using this link. Away fans are housed in our Tommy McLean Stand, marked as the South Stand on our ticket website.

Ross County match

Supporters planning to travel to Dingwall for the match with Ross County on Tuesday 18 January will also be able to gain access to the ground without government-enforced limits on numbers.

Motherwell are back in SWPL1 action on Sunday 16 January when they take on Partick Thistle at Alliance Park. 

Kick off is 4pm.

TALE OF THE TAPE

Motherwell and Partick Thistle faced off last weekend in the Scottish Cup. After going ahead twice in the match, Thistle advanced to the next round after scraping through after a 4-2 victory in the penalty shootout.

Partick Thistle came out on top in the last league meeting earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

Motherwell occupy sixth place in the table, after achieving ten points from the first 11 games of the season. Motherwell have faced off against the top three in their last four games and have won two games in five in SWPL1. 

The Jags are two points behind the women of steel and currently sit in 9th place in the table. Thistle’s last league game was against Glasgow City, where the champions won 2-0.

Graham Alexander has signed a new contract.

The Motherwell manager has put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him at Fir Park until at least 2025.

“I’m delighted to sign a new contract here at Motherwell and continue the progress we have all made in the last 12 months,” Alexander said.

“Chris and I have received nothing but great support from everyone connected with the club, which has certainly helped us concentrate on our work.

“I have a brilliant relationship with the people I work with every day, and the environment that we’re allowed to develop here to produce results is particularly rewarding.

“I also want to thank the chairman and the board for showing the faith in us from day one to be a success in this role.

“We know we have much more to achieve here. We will strive to work as hard as ever to serve Motherwell in the best way.”

Appointed on 7 January 2021, the former Scotland international has presided over the transformation of the playing squad.

The team’s Premiership points tally of 59 in the 2021 calendar year was the third-highest in the top flight, with the club also currently occupying fourth spot.

Alexander statistically ranks near the top of the modern-day Motherwell bosses with a win percentage of 47.8% and a league points per game record of 1.55.

He is also the first manager outside of Celtic and Rangers to win three Premiership Manager of the Month awards in a calendar year, with only Neil Lennon (four), Steven Gerrard, Alex McLeish, Brendan Rodgers and Gordon Strachan (three) for company.

“We have been absolutely delighted with Graham’s contribution since joining our club 12 months ago and we are excited about what he is trying to build with us,” Motherwell chairman Jim McMahon added.

“He is talented, hard-working, dedicated and fully buys into the multifaceted role at Motherwell.

“The board will continue to back him to help us achieve our goals both on and off the pitch.”

Motherwell will be well represented in Scotland’s next Under 19s women’s training camp with four players being selected.

Striker Jemma Hughes has been selected for her first Under 19 call up. Jemma, who broke into the Motherwell first team at the start of the season, has gone on to make 11 appearances in claret and amber, notching her first goal in the Lanarkshire derby.

Newly signed Ciara Duff will be present at the two-day training camp, after making her Motherwell debut in the Scottish Cup on Sunday. Signed from Boroughmuir Thistle, the goalkeeper looks to be a prospect for the future.

London Pollard also earns international recognition after her move to the women of steel. Having made three starts since her switch from Celtic, the strong and promising striker will be looking to continue her development at international level.

Making up the four, Paige McAllister will join up with Pauline Hamill’s squad, having joined on loan from Celtic in the summer before joining permanently in January.

“Getting four players into the 19s national squad speaks volumes of the work we are doing here at Motherwell,” head coach Paul Brownlie said.

“I’m delighted for the four players, it’s testament to the hard work and commitment they give weekly to become better players.”

The two-day camp will take place on 18 and 19 January.

Motherwell exited the Scottish Women’s Cup on penalties after Partick Thistle twice came from behind to take the tie the distance.

Carla Boyce netted her third Motherwell goal with a well-placed header before Freya MacDonald fired the Jags level early into the second half.

With both sides battling for the winner late on, Leanne Crichton scored a spectacular free kick to restore Motherwell’s advantage with 12 minutes remaining. However, Cheryl McCulloch’s late header forced the game into extra time.

Motherwell started the game brightly and came close to breaking the deadlock after only six minutes.

Lori Gardner’s incisive through ball picked out Boyce on the left. The forward skilfully worked her way past several lacklustre challenges before firing towards goal, but her effort failed to trouble the keeper from distance.

The women of steel continued to dominate the early stages and deservedly took the lead after 12 minutes.

Exceptional link-up play between Gill Inglis and Gardner allowed Inglis to find space on the left, and the Motherwell captain accurately picked out Boyce in the box, who calmly placed her headed effort past Lauren McGregor to give her side the early advantage.

Looking for a response, the hosts came close to the equaliser on the half-hour mark. Clare Docherty was left through on goal after latching onto Amy Bulloch’s well-timed through ball, but debutant goalkeeper Ciara Duff reacted quickly to produce a smart stop.

With the half-time whistle looming, Motherwell came close to doubling their advantage. An excellent interchange of play between Inglis and Crichton left the midfielder in acres of space at the edge of the box, but her powerful effort sailed agonisingly wide of the target.

However, the hosts pulled themselves level early into the second half. Cheryl McCulloch’s low driven cross was brilliantly parried away by Duff, but MacDonald was on hand to coolly slot her strike into the bottom left corner.

With both sides battling for the winner in the dying stages of the game, Motherwell looked to have secured victory as Crichton stepped up and curled a spectacular free kick into the top right corner.

Katie Rice saw a second yellow card and was given her marching orders with only minutes to go.

Cara McBrearty’s subsequent looping free kick was easily prodded home by McCulloch deep into injury time, forcing the contest into extra time.

With neither side able to break the deadlock in the extra 30 minutes, the closely-fought encounter would be settled from the penalty spot.

Despite accurate spot kicks from Boyce and Chelsie Watson, Amy Anderson missed the target whilst Crichton saw her spot kick saved by McGregor, sending Thistle into the fourth round.

Despite exiting the cup prematurely, Motherwell will be encouraged with their display after controlling large periods of the game. Paul Brownlie will look to rectify this result when the pair meet at Alliance Park in the SWPL1 later this month.

Liam Shaw has joined on loan from Celtic.

The versatile midfielder has signed until the end of the 2021/22 season.

“We’re very happy to bring Liam into the club on loan until the summer,” manager Graham Alexander said. “He’s a player that has all the attributes we look for in our midfield.

“He comes into a strong group of players and his addition improves that again.

“He’s motivated and eager to play football and we look forward to working with him.”

Shaw, 20, moved to Celtic from Sheffield Wednesday in the summer.

Having risen through the ranks at Hillsborough, his professional debut came in the National League during a loan spell with Chesterfield in November 2019.

Returning to Wednesday, he made two appearances in the prolonged 2019/20 season before establishing himself in the Owls’ side, making a further 22 appearances.

Signing a pre-contract with Celtic last March, he made his debut in the UEFA Europa League match with Real Betis in early December, before following it up with a substitute appearance away to St Mirren.

Robbie Crawford has left Motherwell to join Partick Thistle.

The midfielder departs on a permanent basis to the Scottish Championship side.

Crawford initially joined on loan from Livingston in the summer of 2020, before making his move permanent last January.

He amassed 29 appearances in claret and amber, making his final outing in the Premier Sports Cup in July.

The winter months add a particularly difficult challenge to keep on top of things, and ensure the team have the best possible surface to play on.

Barry Maguire has signed a new deal.

The midfielder has extended his stay at the club until the summer of 2024.

“I’m delighted Barry has committed himself to us at an important stage of his career,” manager Graham Alexander said.

“He’s consistently shown he has all the attributes of a player we want, from how he trains and prepares, to his will to win and quality.

“He’s great to work with and we believe he will continue to progress into a top midfield player.”

Maguire has been an impressive and regular performer in midfield this campaign, making 15 appearances and netting one goal.

The 23-year-old has played 57 times in total, scoring twice, since making his professional debut in April 2018.

Motherwell get their 2022 Scottish Women’s Cup campaign underway on Sunday 9 January when they face Partick Thistle in round three. 

Kick off is 12.30pm at Petershill Park in Glasgow.

Tickets are priced at £7 for adults and kids go free.

TALE OF THE TAPE

Motherwell last faced off against the Jags in September in SWPL1.

In a back and forth game, Thistle came away with all three points in a 3-2 win. Lori Gardner and Kaela McDonald-Nguah grabbed the goals for the women of steel. 

The sides have history in the Scottish Cup. In 2019 Motherwell came out on top in a 2-0 win after extra-time and progressed to the next round.

Thistle’s last encounter came against champions Glasgow City, where they were beaten 2-0.
