2024/25 women’s season tickets are now on sale.

A historic chapter awaits for the women of steel and supporters can continue to feel closer to the action, with the ability to purchase season tickets available after last season’s introduction for the first-time in the club’s history.

Paul Brownlie’s side narrowly missed out on a top-six place, with the club finishing seventh after building an important eleven-game unbeaten run – comfortably ensuring nine victories throughout that impressive run of form.

It’s easy to buy new. Head here to our online ticketing platform and then press ‘SWPL Season 2024/25’.

Supporters will have the option to purchase season tickets outright either online or at the ticket office with a solitary payment.

Season tickets will not apply to cup games and there will not be an option to select a designated seat.

Prices:

• Adult – £80
• Concession Over 65/12-17 year-olds/Students – £55
• 11 & under – £0

For those looking to purchase their season ticket ahead of the forthcoming season, concession prices apply to those aged 65 and over.

In addition, a concession ticket will also be available to full-time students with a valid matriculation card.

A Message from Paul Brownlie

As one chapter closes, another one opens. We encountered numerous highs and lows last season, but I am proud of the progression at the club in the past year and am excited for the challenges that lay ahead.

Despite a tough winless spell, the commitment and endeavour from the players to finish the season unbeaten in 11-games – scoring 31-times is testament to the character and motivation of the players and their desire to continually improve season upon season.

The squad share aspirations of hitting new heights ahead of the new season, but they rely on the supporters in the stands who played a monumental impact on the entire club last year. The supporters, whose effort and dedication played a vital part in our success on the pitch, will continue to be a fundamental component as we head into the new campaign.

The connection and bond the players have shared with supporters in the past year has allowed the club to continue to develop in the right direction, with attendances at K-Park growing and the interest in developing the women’s game thriving.

Announcing season tickets for the 2024/25 league season is continuing to write another historic chapter for women’s football at the club and an important step in our development.

We know you will continue to support us on that journey and we look forward to welcoming you back at K-Park in the near future.

A message from the captain

Captaining this side into another successive season in the Scottish top-flight is an honour and a privilege I don’t take for granted.

The progression both on and off the pitch over the past year has been instrumental with our professional standards demonstrating the desire of the club to develop the women’s game at all levels.

I think the club and we as the women’s team realised, we still have a way to go and I think to continue to improve every season is definitely our aim. Announcing season tickets was a major milestone for the club last season and continuing to have that support from the stands will be vital as we aim to achieve a historic top-six finish this season.

Kick off is 2pm at Fir Park.

How to follow the game

Season ticket holders have until 5pm on Thursday to secure your own seat.

• Concessions are over 65, Students and Young Adults (14-17)
• Juveniles would be 13 and under (must be accompanied by an adult)
• Ticket Office open from 11am – the ticket office is open until kick-off with no pay gate facility.

Supporters are able to buy tickets online or visit the ticket office at Fir Park.

If you are outside the UK, you can watch the game via Motherwell TV.

Should you be in the UK, it will be live commentary only.

What else is happening?

Radio Law will be on hand collecting money for a bucket collection.

They broadcast both live and automated shows from studio within University Hospital Wishaw.

They provide entertainment, of a local origin, to the patients of University Hospital Wishaw, helping to take their mind off the reason for being hospitalised. In recent years, this has been expanded by the station being available on-line, whereby relatives and friends can listen in and interact also.

Bars

The Cooper Bar will be open from 12 noon serving food and drink. Come along and try the club’s new food menu and have a refreshment before the game.  The bar will re-open for one-hour following the match.

Apostolos Stamatelopoulos came off early against Rangers last Saturday with a suspected thigh issue. He will be missing for this match.

Motherwell’s Fortunes

Motherwell showed some fight against Rangers last weekend. Despite a depleted squad, Stuart Kettlewell’s side could consider themselves unfortunate not to come away with a point from the national stadium.

A draw with County on match day one sees the Steelmen remain on one point going into this match.

Apostolos Stamatelopoulos joined the list of absentees after the new striker came off early last weekend. That takes the total number of casualties up to eight.

Opposition Report

Kilmarnock have had a hectic start to their season, competing on a European front and domestically. They were knocked out of the Europa League by Cercle Brugge, falling to a 2-1 defeat on aggregate.

They now travel to Tromsø on Thursday night for the second leg of their Conference League tie, with the first tie ending 2-2 at Rugby Park thanks to a late leveller from Bobby Wales.

In the league, Kilmarnock are one of only two teams not to have got a point on the board as yet. An opening day 4-0 defeat to Celtic was followed up by a 3-0 loss to St Johnstone on home turf. Joe Wright seen red after just 16 minutes in the match.

Tony Watt has returned on loan from Dundee United until the end of the season. 

In his first spell at the club, the forward made 70 appearances in the claret and amber and found the back of the net 19 times.

“If you look at Tony’s record, he is available to play all the time,” manager Stuart Kettlewell said.

“He is a player who has done well here with goals and strong performances. We jumped at the chance to bring him back to Fir Park and Tony himself was desperate to return.

“Tony had lots of other options, both home and abroad, but he was fixated on coming back here.”

Watt left Motherwell for Dundee United in 2022.

“It’s so good to be back in the building,” Tony Watt added.

“I was itching to join Motherwell again and can’t wait to get stuck in.

“There’s obviously people who may not be too happy to see me back. I need to prove myself here and get people back on my side but that target is firmly set in my mind. I feel fit. I’ve been training and I have a full pre-season under my belt.”

Motherwell visited the national stadium looking for back-to-back wins against Rangers. In what was a hectic first 25 minutes, chances came for both teams.

Rangers converted two, while an own goal got Motherwell back level at one stage.

A depleted Motherwell side found their way back into the match and had it not been for some world class goalkeeping from Jack Butland, the Steelmen may have been leaving Hampden with more than just a pat on the back.

The women of steel kicked off the 2024/25 SWPL campaign with a comfortable 1-5 victory over Spartans at Ainslie Park.

The women of steel travelled to the Scottish capital keen to pick up from where they left off last season, with a revitalised squad coasting past a competitive Spartans team to start the latest top-flight campaign on a high.

Competitive debutant Rachel Todd netted a prolific brace across both halves, with Bailley Collins, Sarah Gibb and Morgan Cross also finding the target in a dominant second-half display in Edinburgh.

Head Coach Paul Brownlie named three new additions within the starting XI, as Jenna Penman, Mason Blyth-Clark and Rachel Todd lined-up from the start, with Celtic loanees Sienna Mcgoldrick and Amy Sharkey featuring from the bench.

The hosts capitalised on the visitors early frustrations, netting the opener within the opening phases of play. Nevertheless, the women of steel persisted and soon netted an unpredictable equaliser, with Spartans gifting Bailley Collins a free close-range effort after misplacing an unpressurised goal-kick.

Debutant Todd soon netted Motherwell’s second from the penalty spot after Morgan Cross was hauled down after expertly escaping her marker within the penalty area. Sarah Gibb netted her first Motherwell goal early into the second-half, dispatching Bailley Collins whipped delivery across the face of goal.

Morgan Cross picked up from where she left off last season, drilling home Collins’ low delivery in an almost identical goal. Todd rounded off an exceptional afternoon under the Edinburgh sunshine, powering home Sarah Gibb’s floated corner kick with a precise headed effort.

The women of steel now head into the campaign with confidence and momentum in the pursuit of a historic top-six finish.

Motherwell came away from Hampden empty-handed on Saturday afternoon as Rangers secured their first win of the season in a 2-1 victory over the Steelmen. 

Despite late pressure and a great save from Jack Butland, first half goals from Cyriel Dessers and Václav Cerny gave the Glasgow side the three points.

The Steelmen had the first real chance of the game after just four minutes. Stephen’s O’Donnell’s flick over the top of the defence found Lennon Miller who was able to stay onside, however the 17-year-old could only find the side netting with his effort.

Incredible defending from captain Paul McGinn then kept the scoreline level as he raced back to clear off the line from Scott Wright, who had skipped past Aston Oxborough in the Motherwell net.

Rangers took the lead a minute later when Mohamed Diomande got on the end of a deep ball into the box and his header across goal was converted by Dessers.

Incredibly that lead only lasted a few minutes as from the next attack, ‘Well were level. Steve Seddon, on his first start for the club, advanced down the left wing and saw his cross steered into his own net by Robin Propper.

It looked like something to hold onto and build on but Rangers were back ahead shortly after. Cerny found far too much space and from the edge of the box curled his shot into the top corner of the net with a fine finish from his left foot.

Motherwell were dealt a blow as new recruit Apostolos Stamatelopoulos limped off with an injury and was replaced by Zach Robinson just before half time.

In the second half, Robinson had arguably the two best chances.

Firstly the ball dropped to him 12 yards out after good play from O’Donnell but he couldn’t hit the target.

As time was running out for an equaliser, he then produced an incredible save from Butland. Lennon Miller picked him out and on the swivel, his low shot was somehow beaten away by the Rangers stopper despite the number nine doing everything right.

Some half chances from Liam Gordon and O’Donnell didn’t threaten the Rangers keeper as the game edged closer to it’s conclusion.

It was all Motherwell at that point – with plenty of long-throws being launched into the box but the Steelmen could find no way through and left the national stadium with nothing to show for their efforts

Stuart Kettlewell gives his thoughts on the 2-1 defeat to Rangers at Hampden.

Striker Amy Sharkey has joined the club on a season-long loan deal from defending SWPL champions Celtic.

The 16-year-old joined the Hoops’ academy in February 2022 and instantly made an impression, earning a place on the bench against local rivals Rangers at only 15-years-old in the maiden women’s Scottish Cup final at the national stadium, Hampden park.

The forward soon made her senior Celtic debut, before featuring twice against Hamilton and Dundee United, with Sharkey netting her first top-flight goal in a 9-0 victory over the Tangerines.

“I’m delighted to have joined Motherwell,” said Sharkey.

“I want to experience regular first-team football and the club have a proven track record of developing young players and providing the platform to gain experience and progress both as a player and a person.

“I can’t wait to get started and am looking forward to playing my part in the season ahead.”

The striker, who has been capped internationally for Scotland at both U16 and U17 level, will be the sixth new acquisition for the women of steel this season.

“This is a very positive addition,” head coach Paul Brownlie said.

“Making her Celtic debut at 15 emphasises how exciting a talent Amy is, and we knew she’d be able to positively strengthen our options in the final third. We are looking forward to supporting her progression this season.”
