This weekend’s match with Rangers will now go ahead on Saturday 23 April, with a noon kick off.

Rangers made a request to the Scottish Professional Football League, Police Scotland and to host broadcasters, Sky Sports, to seek permission to bring the game forward 24 hours.

Following approval from those bodies, Motherwell FC agreed to the proposal.

“Based on significant feedback over the years, we believe most of our fans would rather watch a match on a Saturday rather than a Sunday, and with our only other home fixture after the split being a Wednesday night, that was at the forefront of our thinking,” Chief Executive Alan Burrows said.

“In addition, the club believe it sensible to support all Scottish clubs playing in European matches.

“That being said, we would like to sincerely apologise for the length of time taken to make this call and the subsequent lack of notice of the change, which has been largely out with our control. We were initially approached on Good Friday, but we were only given confirmation of the change at 3:10pm today (Tuesday 19th).”

Our 2021/22 Player of the Year event is sold out, but there’s still time to get on our waiting list if extra tickets become available.

Held at Dalziel Park Hotel on Saturday 14 May and hosted by Tam Cowan, our event will see the top performers from across the campaign recognised.

A difficult afternoon for Motherwell as the women of steel struggled to break down an organised Hamilton side, who came away with maximum points in a disappointing but momentous day at Fir Park.

Chloe Muir’s second half strike proved to be the difference in what was a frustrating afternoon for Motherwell in their first Fir Park appearance in over three years.

Following last weekend’s narrow 1-0 defeat to league leaders Rangers, Paul Brownlie made one change from the previous outing, with Carla Boyce replacing London Pollard who recently returned from international duty.

Looking to secure their third successive Lanarkshire derby victory this season, Motherwell started on the front foot and almost found themselves ahead after four minutes.

Katie Rice cut into the box with a darting run before picking out Lori Gardner with an enticing through ball, but the wingers drilled effort was superbly parried wide of the target by Nicolson.

Moments later, Carla Boyce brilliantly evaded her opponent with a skilful nutmeg before teeing up Kaela McDonald-Nguah at the edge of the box, but the forwards effort failed to trouble the keeper.

As the half time whistle loomed, Motherwell continued to flood the Hamilton penalty area in search of the opener.

Amy Anderson’s volley sailed into the path of Boyce deep into the Hamilton penalty area, but with the goal seemingly at her mercy, Nicolson reacted well to produce a vital last-ditch save.

With both sides level minutes into the second half, the visitors snatched a lead.

Lucy Sinclair skilfully worked her way to the edge of the box before curling a threatening delivery across the face of goal, and Muir was on hand to coolly divert her strike past Ramsay at the back post.

Motherwell toiled in the second half in search of a route back into the game, but despite their tireless efforts, the women of steel were unable to find the late equaliser that they truly deserved.

Paul Brownlie’s side will now look to rectify this result, as they travel to face sixth placed Spartans in a season-defining encounter at Ainslie Park

Keith Lasley will leave Motherwell this summer to become St Mirren’s new Chief Operating Officer.

The ‘Well legend has spent more than 20 years at Fir Park as a player, captain, coach and, most recently, assistant manager.

The 42-year-old is currently enrolled on the Masters of Sport Directorship at Manchester Metropolitan University with a view to taking a new route into the non-playing side of football, and that has been expedited by St Mirren’s vacancy and offer.

“We were very keen for Keith to stay at Motherwell and have helped him in his development towards a new career path but we also acknowledge this is a very exciting opportunity for him,” chairman Jim McMahon said.

“Keith has been a fantastic servant to Motherwell, he is a legend in every sense of the word. We thank him for all his hard work, effort and dedication, on and off the field, across two decades and wish him well for the future.”

Lasley joined the Steelmen in the late 1990s under then boss Billy Davies and finished as one the highest appearance holders in Fir Park history, playing almost 500 games in claret and amber.

He was rewarded for his impeccable playing service with a testimonial match against Bolton Wanderers in 2015.

Graham Alexander added: “I am reluctant to lose Keith from our coaching staff as we have a very good relationship, and he plays a significant part in what we do.

“However, when he set out the direction in which he saw his career going and then with this role presented itself, it was clear it was too good for him to turn down.

“I want to personally thank him for all his help and support over the last 16 months and wish him every success in his new role.”

“There have been some very special moments along the way. From making my debut at the age of 19 through to captaining the club and ultimately on to my current role as assistant manager, I have enjoyed every single minute.

“This club means so much to me and my family, and will continue to do so. I will continue to serve the club with great pride and determination until the end of the season and wish Graham, his staff, the players and everyone at the club continued success in the future.”

Due to Motherwell’s fixture with Ross County in Dingwall on Saturday 7 May, the 2021/22 Player of the Year event will now take place on Saturday 14 May and will now take place at Dalziel Park Hotel.

The Player of the Year Awards will return in person for the first time since 2019.

Held at the Dalziel Park Hotel on Saturday 14 May and hosted by Tam Cowan, our event will see the players from across the campaign recognised (covid restrictions permitting).

Fans will have the opportunity to select their Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year and Goal of the Season prizes in the upcoming weeks.

Motherwell have the upper hand on their Lanarkshire rivals this season, winning both encounters thus far.

In the first match, Motherwell ran out 3-0 winners, with Crichton, Gardner, and Hughes all getting on the scoresheet. During the buildup to their most recent match at New Douglas Park, there was considerable buzz surrounding a new presale for tickets that sold out in record time, reflecting the heightened anticipation among fans. In that match, Motherwell came from behind to take all three points in a hard-fought 2-1 victory.

Leanne Crichton got her side level before Carla Boyce netted the winner for the visitors.

Motherwell are still searching for their first win since January. Before the international break, they ran title leaders Rangers very close, going down 1-0 to the Gers.

Accies are bottom of the SWPL1 table, eight points behind Hearts who are 9th in the table.

Hamilton have registered one league victory this season, which came against Hearts back in September.

Motherwell’s post split fixtures for season 2022/23 have been announced by the SPFL.

The Steelmen will kick off with a home game against Rangers on Sunday 24 April, live on Sky Sports (12 noon kick off).

Graham Alexander’s men then travel to Tannadice for a third time this season the following Saturday, 30 April.

‘Well remain on the road with a trip north to face Ross County on Saturday 07 May before the last home game of the campaign sees third-place Hearts visit Fir Park the following Wednesday (11 May).

The final game of the season will be in Glasgow as Motherwell sign off against Celtic at Celtic Park on Saturday 14 May, live on Sky Sports, with a 12.15pm kick off.
