Fans in these sections in the north and south ends of the Phil O’Donnell Stand will be asked to keep a 1.5m distance from others not in their household, and to wear masks at all times.

Aberdeen won the last encounter between the two sides, picking up a 2-0 victory at Pittodrie in January.

Last time at Fir Park, the two sides played out a 0-0 draw in late December.

Prior to defeat up north last time, Motherwell were unbeaten in three against the Dons, having racked up back-to-back wins at Pittodrie.

Motherwell suffered a 6-0 defeat in the opening weekend of the SWPL1 at the hands of reigning champions Glasgow City.

Hibernian opened their season with three points and a 3-0 win against Spartans at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

The Hibees qualified for the next round of the SWPL Cup after they finished top of their group, scoring 24 goals in three games and conceding just two goals in the process.

Stephen O’Donnell has equalled a long-standing record for Scotland caps won while at Motherwell.

The international defender was a pivotal figure in the national team’s 1-0 away win in Austria on Tuesday, as the nation took the upper hand in the race for a FIFA World Cup qualifying play-off spot.

O’Donnell won his 12th cap while on the books at Fir Park, equalling the amount amassed by the legendary George Stevenson.

Stevenson won his first cap against Wales in October 1927, with the last coming against Northern Ireland in 1934.

O’Donnell has the opportunity to make the record his own before the end of the year, with four qualifiers remaining for Scotland across October and November.

With a high number of players departing at the end of the 2020/21 season, Motherwell manager Graham Alexander had the opportunity to put his own mark on the squad in the summer transfer window.

Motherwell suffered defeat to Glasgow City in a tough SWPL1 encounter at Petershill Park on Sunday.

Priscila Chinchilla netted the early opener, before Claire Walsh added a second from a well-worked corner. Ode Fulutudilu would add a third from close range, before adding a fourth on the stroke of half time.

Taylor Fisher would fire home the fifth, before Vital Kats late effort settled a 6-0 defeat for Motherwell.

The hosts would take the lead in the opening minute.

Kats’ perfectly-weighted pass sliced through the Motherwell defence, leaving Chinchilla through on goal, and the forward skilfully rounded Khym Ramsay before slotting her strike into the empty net.

City would double their advantage minutes later.

Tyler Dodds’ floated corner found Walsh unmarked in the box, and the defender powerfully placed her header past Ramsay into the right corner to put the hosts in control early on.

The champions continued to show their early dominance and would add a third on the 20-minute mark.

A well-worked counter-attack allowed Fulutudilu to break with pace, and winger raced through on goal before rounding Ramsay and applying the finishing touch from close range.

The hosts would add a fourth in the latter stages of the first half.

Cailin Michie’s long ball was misjudged by Ramsay, and Chinchilla’s pass allowed Fulutudilu to add her second of the game from a few yards out.

Motherwell would almost pull one back on the stroke of half-time. Kaela McDonald-Nguah’s long range effort was spilled by Erin Clachers, but the keeper recovered in time to keep the score at 4-0.

Glasgow City would be awarded a penalty minutes into the second half, after Kats’ diagonal cross appeared to strike Gill Inglis’ hand in the box.

Substitute Mairead Fulton stepped up but her low driven effort was superbly stopped by Ramsay in the Motherwell goal.

Fisher would add a fifth on the hour mark. Dodds’ in-swinging cross fell kindly to Fisher at the edge of the box, and the forward rifled her strike into the bottom corner to secure the three points for the hosts.

City would continue to punish a depleted Motherwell side and would add a sixth after 65 minutes.

An exceptional interchange of play found Kats at the edge of the box, and the midfielder’s side footed effort sailed into the top right corner.

Motherwell will now look to redeem themselves as they face a home encounter with Hibs next week, as they search for their first three points this season. Motherwell picked up seven points from their four league matches, defeating Livingston and Dundee, drawing at St Johnstone and narrowly losing out to Hibernian in a thrilling affair.

Tony Watt netted three times during the month.

His first came away to St Johnstone in a 1-1 draw, before his equaliser set the team on their way to a comeback 2-1 win at Livingston.

His goal against Dundee at the end of the month was enough to secure a 1-0 win, and a first home league victory of the season.

Liam Kelly also contributed heavily to the points haul, with a number of crucial saves across the month.

His form also led to a return to the Scotland squad for their FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Jake Carroll fired in three assists across the month, setting up both goals against Hibernian and then the free-kick which led to Watt’s winner against Dundee.

Recruited in the summer, Juhani Ojala has also brought vast experience to the defence.

The Finn featured three times, growing in confidence and stature and in particular standing out with his defensive display against Dundee in the final game of the month.

Despite all the challenges of the pandemic and the ongoing difficulties, our supporter base has continued to grow and thrive as we return fans to Fir Park.

Our season ticket total sits currently at 5,226, far exceeding our record number and with a further increase anticipated before our next home match with Aberdeen.

A total of 4,784 supporters purchased season tickets for the 2021/22 campaign, surpassing the previous record sales total of 4,488.

Of that number, 3,732 fans carried their tickets over from 2020/21, with 1,052 others purchasing new.

Our Well In scheme has further boosted that number, with our staff continuing to process applications with a view to reaching a total of 1,000 distributed free season tickets before our next home match with Aberdeen.

Things are finally getting fully back to normal in ML1.

The match with Hibernian at the start of August marked the first return for all season ticket holders, as well as the first away support in the cinch Premiership since Covid issues began in March 2020.

The club’s vice-captain Liam Kelly spent time on loan at the club in the second half of the 2020/21 season, but never got to play in front of fans. Now back at the club permanently, he discusses the emotions of finally getting to line up in front of supporters at Fir Park.
