Billy Reid, one of our famous Ancell Babes, has died at the age of 83.
The inside-right signed for the club on his 17th birthday, with his forms being signed at his home in Craigneuk in the presence of manager George Stevenson.
Reid went on to make 73 appearances, scoring 11 goals, before leaving for Airdrieonians in 1961.
He remained a big fan of the club, and was a member of our former players’ club.
Our thoughts are with his family.
We are holding open trials for our new Under 15 girls academy squad on Sunday 25 July 2021.
We are looking for players born in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. All players must be free agents.
Trials will begin on the Fir Park astro at 1.30pm and will last until 3.30pm with registration taking place at 1.15pm.

The Motherwell boss looks ahead to the derby and trying to progress from the group stages of the Premier Sports Cup.
Motherwell will open the 2021/22 SWPL1 season on 5 September 2021 with an away game to reigning champions Glasgow City.
Our first home game will then follow on 12 September against Hibernian, before facing Champions League participants Celtic at home on 19 September.
The women of steel’s final game will be at home against newly-promoted Aberdeen on 15 May 2022.

Gill Inglis will again be the captain of Motherwell in the 2021/22 season.
The experienced midfielder helped guide the side to a sixth-place finish last campaign and her leadership on the pitch will be required again to push the club further up the SWPL1 table.
Joining Motherwell in 2019 from Rangers, Inglis has spent more than a decade in the top flight of Scottish women’s football.
A role model for any player, Inglis has been trusted with the armband once again this season.
“I’m thrilled to have Gill as captain this season,” head coach Paul Brownlie said.
“She has displayed real leadership qualities since I joined Motherwell and she has been at the forefront in building a connection between the players and the new coaching staff since they arrived.
“I’m very excited to see what she can offer throughout the season and look forward to working closely with her for the upcoming campaign.”

Motherwell produced a stirring comeback to re-open Fir Park with a 3-2 win over Queen of the South.
Almost 2,000 fans were in attendance as goals from Tony Watt, Ricki Lamie and Kaiyne Woolery turned a tie, in which the visitors went in 2-0 up at the break thanks to Ruari Paton’s double.
Manager Graham Alexander made two changes from the team which won 1-0 in the opening match at Queen’s Park.
Liam Donnelly made his first start after returning from injury, while Kevin van Veen was given his first start up top. Robbie Crawford and Kaiyne Woolery dropped to the bench.
Buoyed by the presence of the home support, Motherwell enjoyed all the early possession in the opening exchanges, with the visitors carving out some dangerous chances on the break.
Van Veen in particular was lively up top for the Steelmen, seeing two shots in the box blocked, before another left-footed low drive from distance was gathered by the ‘keeper.
At the other end, Roy fired wide across a diving Kelly from the right and Joseph sent a shot over from distance as the Championship side showed threat.
‘Well thought the goal had arrived with seven minutes left to play in the half. Brilliant play down the left from Watt saw him drive into the area and send a ferocious drive bound for the top corner.
With the goalkeeper beaten, the ball crashed off the crossbar and Lawless couldn’t capitalise on the rebound.
Van Veen then headed just wide of the left-hand post, with a towering leap beating all but the ball bouncing wide.
Then, against the run of play, the hosts would find themselves behind.
A deep ball to the back post found East unopposed and with a free header. Paton latched on to the knockdown, steering the ball past Kelly into the bottom-right corner from close range.
The situation would worsen on the stroke of half-time. A throw-in on the left was worked inside and, with room to shoot from 25 yards, Paton let fly.
His low shot took a nick on the way through to finding the bottom-left corner and leave Motherwell with plenty work to do in the second period.
They were quick out of the blocks, and within three minutes had a goal back.
A ball in from the right was headed back across by Lamie and Watt was on hand to steer the ball home from close range.
Van Veen powered over from close range as Motherwell continued to threaten, with the Dutchman then seeing a cutback from Carroll get caught under him as he looked to pounce from five yards.
The pendulum was swinging, and the equaliser came with 20 to go.
A short corner saw Maguire tap to Lawless to send the ball in and Lamie rose highest to power the header home.
Better would follow minutes later. Positive attacking play around the area would see the ball fall to Woolery. Taking time to engineer space, his shot from 15 yards took a little touch but found the net to send the sold-out crowd into raptures.

Mich’el Parker is the latest in the door at Motherwell.
The defensive midfielder has signed a deal until January, having spent the last few months training with the team.
“Mich’el has been training with us for a while now and shown a gradual improvement,” manager Graham Alexander said.
“He’s a young player who has been at Liverpool and West Ham but lost his way a little.
“He’s now got an opportunity here to show he can build a successful football career.
“He has some work to do but he has the ability and there’s a will from him to take this chance. We look forward to helping him achieve that.”
Mich’el will wear the number 26 jersey and is available for selection for Saturday’s homecoming Premier Sports Cup match against Queen of the South.
The 22-year-old has been on the books at Arsenal, Liverpool, Millwall and West Ham United, featuring in Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy.
