    Youth Development Restructure

Motherwell Football Club are pleased to announce details of the Youth Development revamp currently taking place at the club.

From the turn of the year Chief Executive Leeann Dempster, in partnership with an independently appointed consultant, undertook a strategic review of Motherwell’s youth infrastructure.

That reported last month with a number of recommendations in line with the new Club Academy Scotland from the Scottish Football Association and the shift to U20s football by the Scottish Premier League.

Chief Executive Leeann Dempster said, “The youth development side of the club is an area which, up until recently, I haven’t really got overly involved with.  With the changes brought forward by the SFA and also the new Under 20 league, it was timely to take the opportunity to review our operation and importantly see where we could add value and resource.

“We have been producing some great young players but that doesn’t mean to say we can’t aim to be better and produce more.  I’ve had complete buy in from everyone at the club on the changes we’ve proposed and indeed, by virtue of the fact that the full board are behind the review, there is a lot of excitement about the changes and improvements that are sure to come.

“Gordon Young was previously responsible for our Under 19s team on a day to day basis, as well as the Youth Development role and also all of the scouting and, being honest, that is far too much to ask one person to do. It has been under resourced for a long time.

[pullquote]We have been producing some great young players but that doesn’t mean to say we can’t aim to be better and produce more. [/pullquote]

“We have made some changes to our operation and some new posts have been created so we are currently recruiting.  We have decided to split and enhance the responsibilities of Gordon who has, with immediate effect, been appointed as our Academy Director, wholly responsible for all players seventeen and below.

“Gordon’s move across to focus on the Academy has created a post for a new Under 20s coach who will sit and provide a vital bridge between the Academy and the First Team. It is a critical role for the club.

“We are also recruiting an Academy Recruitment Coordinator – or in old money, a Chief Scout who will report directly to Gordon. We have some great scouts working for the club but we need more and, importantly, someone coordinating it. We need to identify young talent as early as possible and make sure they are committed to us as early as possible.

“Finally, as a part of Club Academy Scotland which from October will split into various levels, we are aiming to be involved at the highest level possible. To do that, there are a couple of additional requirements one of which being the recruitment of more Youth Licence holders so we’re are again advertising for those positions, someone who is Motherwell minded or someone who is looking to take the next step in football.”

“We are extending the deadline on applications for a couple of days to see if any other applicants come forward.”

Interested applicants should apply via email, including their CV, to mfcenquiries@motherwellfc.co.uk

Fir Park five promoted to U20s squad

Five of Motherwell’s most talented youngsters have signed professional terms with the club and will form a part of the new Under 20s squad next term.

The five (L-R), Steven Higgins (Motherwell), Fraser Johnston (Strathaven), Dale Shirkie (Mauchline), Morgyn Neil (Motherwell) and Paul McCafferty (Motherwell) were all stand-outs with the Under 17s squad last season and have been promoted for the up-coming season.

And with the SPL’s newest league set to include at least two overage players, Academy Director Gordon Young said: “I am pleased that, once again, we’ve been able to promote from within and these lads have deserved their professional contract.

“All five have been with us for between five and six years and Motherwell have played a large part in their footballing career so far. Two of them are already youth Internationalists so have a degree of experience and playing at a very high standard.

“But it will be a big step up for the lads; the move to the Under 20s with two overage players will bring them face to face with some really experienced professionals but that can only be a positive thing.

“It’s also pleasing to have three of the five are from the Motherwell and surrounding areas , a priority  in our scouting network

“I wish the every success in their careers and hope they can establish themselves as future Motherwell players.”

    Secure your Champions League spot

The club announced positive results for the opening sales period up to the end of May but tickets are still available.

Remember, being a 2012/13 season ticket holder is the only way to guarantee your home Champions League tickets.

But that’s not where the value ends…

A season ticket, whether bought individually or as part of a family package, represents tremendous value. We have completely frozen prices from last season and you can save up to £534 on paying at the game week in and week out.

The excellent season ticket offers which can be used to earn a host of discounts in a number of well-known businesses throughout Lanarkshire has also been extended.

We’ve added the likes of Tony Macaroni, Hamilton Palace, Knockhill Racing and Esporta to the 35 strong list which already contained the likes of McDonalds, KFC, Subway, Pizzahut, LivingWell Health Club, Evans Halshaw and many, many more.

We are Scotland’s Family and Community Club and we want and need you to be a part of that.

    New ‘Third’ kit launched

The new Motherwell FC 2012/13 PUMA ‘Third’ kit has today gone on sale from the ‘Well Shop at Fir Park.

Following an unveiling two weeks ago, the kit has been almost universally praised for not only its design, but also the story behind it as well as the fan participation that went in to its creation.

The kit is a celebration of the 100th anniversary (1913) of Motherwell changing from our original blue colour to the now traditional Claret and Amber, so widely recognised in Scottish and British football.

Motherwell’s retail manager Alan Provan from PSL said, “We have been overwhelmed by the positive feedback we have received about the new third kit.

“We have worked on it now for about four or five years and today is a culmination of that planning with the kit going on full general sale both in store and online.

“The pre-orders and demand along with how early we have managed to get the kits on sale has been such we expect this to be one of the best selling change strips ever. So I would certainly urge fans that are keen to get their hands on one on launch weekend to make sure they get in early.”

The ‘Well shop opens at 9am this morning (Friday 8th June 2012).
